There is a ton of talent now, and we have been influenced by illustration giants of the past. Some of the best illustrations I've seen had no credit.
I really admire this guy!.......

Tadahiro Useugi, Norman Rockwell, Vargas, Gibson, Munsch
Oliver Jeffers and Chris VanAllsburgh
Jim Flora, Melinda Beck, Olivier Douzou, Tim Biskup, Gaetan Doremus, Ulf K., Seth, J. Otto Seibold, Lisbeth Zwerger, Mackie Osbourne, Jay Ryan, Richard McGuire. Way too many to fully list...
There are too many illustrators I admire to mention and it keeps growing as I keep discovering more. Mostly I really admire the women illustrator that have persevered and grown in numbers. Emily Carr and Anita Kunz were my female, Canadian, artist inprirations when I was starting out.
There are so many..I add someone to my favourites list almost every day. But I would think my original inspriations would have to be people like Anita Kuntz, Pamela Silin-Palmer, Mary Englebreit, Heather Cooper, Maxfield Parish, Kinuko Craft, The Hildebrant brothers, Graeme Base, Michael Parkes, Daniel Merriam, Alphonse Muncha, Jay Ray, my beloved highschool art teacher David Carlin, Emily Carr, Gustav Klimt, Marc Chagall, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Frida Kahlo, Susan Seddon Boulet, David Shannon, Cathie Shuttleworth, Donna Green, Charles Van Sandwyk, Josephine Wall, Matilda Harrison, Helen Ward, David Kirk, Jan Brett, Laszlo Gal and Valsta Van Kampen….I could go on.
Charles Santore, Jannie Ho, Tony DiTerlizzi, Jody Hewgil... gosh really I do admire most illustrators who make a living illustrating, especially women that are illustrating from home while looking after their children!
Hmmm... thats a hard one for me because there are so many and from so many different places. My heroes come from not only illustrators in general, but book and comic illustrators, painters, graphic designers
I am a great fan of the Golden Age of Illustration with people like Maxfield Parrish, Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac. There's also EA Abbey, Alex Toth and JC Leyendecker. Some of my favorite illustrators today people like Anita Kunz, Shelly Wan and Dan Dos Santos.
The two I admire, are Skottie Young and Damion Scott, both of whom whos styles really got me inspired to draw
I was in class one day and my instructor seen my work that
I had planned to turn in. He was not a fan of my style and he
told me my "stuff" looked like "RALPH STEADMAN". At the time
I had no clue about Ralph Steadman. So I researched and
when I opened his website I was HoOKED! I have never met
him but I really admire his work AND my instructor gave me
a compliment whether he was aware of it or NOT! There are so
many artists that I truly admire but I had to tell this story.
The illustrator I admire most is Norman Rockwell
I admire anyone who's producing work everyday and loving what they do. |
