John K. is my main source of inspiration, then comes Tim Burton, Arthur Rackham, John Tenniel and a lot of other Romanian illustrators.
I'm a big fan of Jon Foster's work, especially after he visited our school last year. He's a very nice, very helpful, down to earth guy, and his artwork is fantastic
I am inspired by many artists. Mucha, Klimt are huge inspirations to me. Art Nouveau is one of my favorite eras for art. People like Dave McKean and Gil Elvgren and Adam Hughes are also come to mind. And in animation, Glen Keane is pretty important.
Present day, I admire Kaori Yuki, Tite Kubo, and Ogure Ito.
Classical Artist wise, I really enjoy the composition of Vincent van Gogh's pieces.
BRUCE TIMM!!! SHANE GLINES!!! :D
And I'm still slowly discovering many great illustrators but these 2 guys are my biggest inspiration!! :D
There's so many to admire!
I really love Arthur Rackham's children's book illustrations. They're so detailed and lively, and the animals seem to have just as much personality as the humans.
I really love Brian Froud, the fantasy artist. His work really broke the mold. His characters aren't always pretty, but they're always fascinating!
I dont have any specific illustrators I admire. My influences are wide ranging from street art, skateboard graphics, stamps, postcards, posters, european folk art/prints and music to found objects.
Herge...
They are so many!
Todd Lockwood, Michael Turner, Tim Seeley, Tetsuya Nomura, Yoshitaka Amano....
I don't actually have some favorites, but I admire any illustrator that makes me feel great when I am looking to his work!
A teacher of mine, Calef Brown comes to mind...
In fashion illustration David Downton, Gruau, Olaf Hajek, Jordi Labanda, Cecilia Carlstedt, Laura Laine, Sabine Pieper...
Other great illustrators I love are Sonia Pulido, Shaun Tan, Alexis Rom...
There are a great many artists I hold in very high regard, so this is a difficult choice. Though there are two artists in particular that have influenced me early on in my studies. The first is the works of Todd Lockwood, a fantasy illustrator largely responsible for designing most of the D&D dragons, whose designs I have always admired. He is also a very skillful illustrator in portraying depth and space.
The second would be the illustrator and concept artist Justin Cherry. I know his works from the early days of DeviantART and have been following them long after he stopped updating there. The combination of his use of color theory, the aesthetic of his designs and the emotion he portrays in is works has never ceased to amaze me.
Alphonse Mucha is one of my all-time favorites. I can never get enough of looking at his old work. I also like Amy Brown for her fantasy art, and I adore the paintings by James Jean.
Tough question.. There is a large list. Not necessary in an increasing admiration order: Pete De Séve, Sempé, H.Craig Hanna, Hugo Pratt, disney's animators and cartoonists of course, Jim Davis, Will Eisner, Frank Miller, Yuko Shimizu, Hokusai, Tolouse Lautréc (always thought of him as an illustrator), Walter Trier...too many to be written. |
