What criteria do you use when selecting someone to be a part of your creative team?
My instincts
Don't need a team
Smart, intelligent and observe.
I usually can work in practically any field of the creative process, so when getting people to work with me I prefer thoughs who are better than I in their special field.
If they will challenge me as a leader. However, work well at the same time.
I'm not keen on enthusiasm that is not backed up by the action of rolling up ones sleeves and mucking in. I like people who are 'doers' who action, who contribute. I look for proof that they'll deliver.
Their skill set and their thoughts - will they benefit the project and make it a success? What are they good at and will they work with the team (whether it is a few or many)?
Sometimes we have no choice in the matter - they are assigned to us. in cases like that, find out what they do well that will lead to the success of the project. it may be organization, it may be thinking, it may be heavy lifting/grunt work, it may be public relations. It might just be keeping the coffee cups filled, but try to get something out of the person - something that they can use to grow and feel good about. Don't assume that you know what a person will be good at though, so if you/they are new, learn about what makes them tick. Giving them something they like to do and are good at will give them a sense of pride in the project.
If I would have to look for personal characteristics in someone I would love to work with, I would most probably aim for their sense of humor and the ammount of spontaneous activity they deliver. I'm quite spontaneous myself and love to brainstorm but patience is of huge essence when it comes to that. I think it would be quite hard for me to work with someone who always just keeps rushing into the scene. It's fine to do it once a while when you're inspired, but that no longer falls under the category patience in my opinion. To me it is more the spontaneosity of one's inspiration which causes this once-a-while "tolerable" moment of rush. It is purely the excitement of a person overwhelmed by his or her ideas during the moment of visualized imagination. When choosing a person to work with I would definitely look at one's creativity and the way of dealing with that creativity. My greatest importance next to the mind-setting is the way a person interacts with his or her intuition. We have to think and work beyond facts or just thoughts. A person must feel free to improvise, make mistakes and experience failures because only then the realization will become true that all failures are great lessons for every one of us. | | |
I love the idea of letting someone grow and giving someone a chance. Someone did that with me right out of college and I will always appreciate it. So, when building a team, I look for the fundamentals but also the willingness to learn and grow.
humourous, helpfull (i mean that he/she should not always have to be commanded to work), a good developed imagination, adding its own style to something, fun to work with. AND THEN YOUR IN!
Skills in advance of my own in at least one area... preferably multiple. Communication skills and dedication are also imperative.
They have to be reliable.
Ability to brainstorm and not afraid to share ideas. That is about it. Anyone can be on the team, no experience necessary.
I argue with myself because my team is me . Hey there really is an I in team afterall
Of course s/he needs to be talented but also a good listener and somebody who doesn't mind getting constructive feedback. S/he also needs to be a team player. |
