"To give birth to ideas." Is this only an expression, or are there really parallels between giving birth and creativity?

There is one parallel for sure, and that is PAIN! I think most people who are true artists and crafters have, at least once, hurt or seriously injured themselves in the pursuit of art!

I've had a few minor welding burns, some cuts and scrapes, but nothing that hurt for more than a few minutes until last April. The day before my birthday, while I was drilling through some old coins to include in assemblage jewelry, my drill bit broke which in turn cocked the hand drill to the side, sending the remaining piece of drill bit (still spinning full speed in the drill) through my fingernail and right on through the bottom of my finger. I'm all healed, with the exception of a small scar and some nerve damage, but I'll have major mental scars forever!

ideas are everywhere, it;s just a 'good' idea or a 'bad' idea....

Any stimulus , information from the environment - sound , colour , flavour or vibration - may give birth to various ideas or moods and lead into something creative without any preconceived notion or anything predicted beforehand .

Creativity can run someone greatfamous works. Parallels between the birth and creativity is also needed to eat and enjoy life

Well I do get an idea in my head and let it simmer for a time before I start to gather up my materials and begin to work so maybe you could consider that the gestation time?

Many of my best ideas have come about spontaneously. After the creative spark comes the "work" of implementing them. So I guess it is kind of like giving birth... you have the potential that needs growing.

There are definantly parallels between giving birth and creativity. To me, I give birth to an idea in my mind, now I have to create that idea for the world to see it. Sometimes I can and sometimes the idea is more complex than my ability to create it. So I have to scale down my own expectations until I am mentally able to bring it into fruition.

There isn't. I believe ideas already exist, but we need to discover them.

I think it's not just words. Children come into this world in different ways. Similarly, the idea: one is born free and easy. Another idea for a long time to nurture, then hard to bear, and then for a long time to grow it, bringing it to perfection.

There are some parallels I suppose. One being that when you create a piece of art, you have so much pride in what you have created and you hope that in creating it, it will inspire others.

Yes.There are really parallels between giving birth and creativity.Because creativity is
inherent in every person.Only some are highly gifted and some are moderately endowed
and still others are not so blessed.

I am sure there are parallels between giving birth and creativity. I did not become who I am today until AFTER the birth of all of these wonderful children I have, all 6 of them! I am who I am creatively I believe because I am a mother!

As I have not given birth (nor plan on giving birth since I am a man) it would be rather insensitive for me to claim it is. However it is an incredibley intimate experience when you create something that you've put not just your mind into but your heart and soul. Magic can and does happen with the process and synchronicity becomes a part of your world.

I believe there are parallels between giving birth and creativity. Either way they both come from me.

I am not sure who said that but it sounds like Uterus-envy to me. I have the opposite problem.
