When you accept a job, how much value do you place on each of the following? Money, creative liberty, visibility, and to work with the best.

My job preference is very separate to my writing. I do not discuss my writing at work. My day job pays for the bills. My writing maintains my mental health and gives me great pleasure. I only think about money when I realise I have to pay for something.

For years I did not have the luxury of working at a job just because I liked it, and as a result I held down a few that were boring, just to earn a living. Today I'm retired and don't have to worry about making a living. It's unfortunate that not everyone can pick and choose and also be well-paid for their work.

Impossible. It depends on the job. Right now I write for nothing for an e-zine because I'm flattered to be in the company of the other writers and to satisfy an editor I respect and admire.

Money - It's important only because it's needed in the world we live in today but it's last on my list when it comes to my art.

Creative Liberty - The reason i take any job is because it challenges me creatively, and my mind is allowed to roam free. I need that freedom to create from my heart, not my head.

Visibility - My work isn't for everyone, but everyone needs to see my work.

Working with the best doesn't exsits. You can't compare creativity, because it has a different meaning to everyone. Creativity comes for ones self, you can't label that.

I have put a different value on each of those things at different times in my career. I wanted to work with the best when I was interning in college, when I first got into the field I was just looking for money, later creative liberty and visibility.

Today, it’s a more practical blend; I still need money so that has to be there and creative liberty is still a great desire, but I take all these things into consideration and strike the best balance I can.

It’s a necessary blend of money and creative liberty (afforded us as experts in the field) we forfeit any visibility due to our commitment to client non-disclosure agreements. Careful hiring and client selection has continued to allow us to work with the best.

Creative liberty, visibility and the right audience are all very valuable to me.

Creative liberty is huge, rare and fantastic. But working with the best vendors/clients/colleagues might trump that. Money has been the second most important thing for me in the past which has given me the experience I have now.

Each of those things matter... when you first interview and get an offer, you think about money. After you've worked there for a while, you think of everything else, and then money.

Truth is I'm making less right now but have way more creative liberty, sky-high visibility and work with some amazing people. So what's more important? Being able to express your passions.

Money: in the scheme of things, very little (often do donation work for fundraisers);
Creative Liberty: A great deal! this is of #1 importance to me.
Visibility: mixed importance - but I believe who ever is meant to see it, will see it (eventually!)
Work with the best: what ever that means! I generally work alone, but if I choose to work with others, it would have to be people I like and respect - I guess that would make them the best, in my book.

Money: 50%, creative liberty: 80%, visibility: 10%, and to work with the best: 100%.

I would take less money if I were able to take a job with high visibility. Creative liberty is important, but sometimes people have their vision and just need someone to execute it for them...although I don't necessarily love those jobs, I will still take them from time to time. And money of course is a factor....as I have stated before, I have pretty low fees right now, but I started much lower...so I learned that although I can get the job if I charge next to nothing, but now I realize that my time is valuable, and I will no longer do jobs for less than I think they are worth!

If I did freelance, it would be freedom.
