List some things you dislike seeing in design.
Anything dark or angry
I hate designs that don't take the end user into account -- brochures that are too techy and cluttered and make it very difficult for the customer to understand the information. I believe design has two roles: making information more easily accessible, and looking cool. Hard to do, but that's always my goal.
The abuse of a certian style/ filter.
Can't stand curly roses anymore.
Bad printing.
This could be a long list:
Bad typography, poor drawing, bad composition, photoshop disasters, lack of space around elements/logos etc., poor spelling and punctuation, dreadful color/print/finishing choices.
You know in 3 seconds whether someone has put any effort into a piece of design.
Copy, Ilegible texts, bad typography, no concept
people that think they can do iti and havnt been to school, but make more money than others that have just because they have the entrepreneurial spirit
Misalignment. Ugh.
Too much clutter, bad typography, bad design.
Center-aligned text - I HATE THAT. Very rarely should it be used. Ragged edges on both sides and weird kerning issues just ruin any design using centered copy. Ugh!
Inattention to detail like leaving jagged edges when isolating an object or ruining a perfectly good design with a low quality image.
I dislike seeing the use of helvetica and comic-sans in any design. I also can't stand it if things aren't aligned properly unless its intentional. Poor copy and misspellings!
The worst is using effects just because you can. Photoshop effects or other. The design has to serve the purpose. Mixing too many different fonts. Most of the time I don't like a lot of different colors unless it serves the design, i.e. a circus poster.
I hate seeing small body copy reversed on a black or red background. I don't like over designed layouts that use a multiple of text wraps.
What I dislike seeing are people that have no clue how much time and effort we put in as artists to make something look spectacular.
I greatly dislike seeing multiple font types that are in no way related. Unintentional asymmetry is another pet peeve, a long with excessive italic fonts and capitalization. |
