What cultural sources do you draw from the most?
Okay. I love the news. It's funny I can look at something in the news and see it in a totally different way than anyone else. For example, with McCain, I predicted he'd go with a 40-something, white woman as his VP, long before he did. And I just see things differently than other people. I find a lot of everyday events humuorous.
It'd be a pity to focus on a few, there's such a paved way behind us and under our feet that's adding to our own future path..so yeah, it's good to have knowledge about as many cultures as we can have, even get some insight.. from the tribes to the new-yorkese society. Yet I tend to be more "influenced by" and get more "interference" from stuff that "is to be", which means you cannot see it around, if you get what I'm saying.
Not sure I draw from one in particular....
Music,Music,music.

I draw from everything. So its not a matter of what i draw from the most. I just draw.
I take most of my inspiration from Japanese culture and fashion--I used to be a big anime dork when I was younger (I've pretty much grown out of it now, though the art style is nice) and through that and the anime fanbase I discovered japanese fashions such as lolita and gyaru. Lolita has always been a favorite hobby of mine, and often this shows in my work. I love the Victorian era and everything sweet and frilly--and also anything a little "dark". I'm a huge horror fanatic. I also love old fairytales, and children's movies, comics, and surreal animations.

Any form of traveling, mostly in Europe. Greece was so inspiring for me when i studied abroad. Going to Muesums and seeking out the artists who have inspired me over the years. I have many friends who are artists so I'll learn about new work and talent that is out there. New York City would have to be the closest cultural arena that I draw from the most for inspiration.
For-sure the Bible.

My personal cultural influences are from France, Louisiana and Georgia/South Carolina (the Deep South).

Great philosophers of Ancient Greece, Sun Tzu, wise old sayings and quotes from intellectuals, thinkers and all-time Masters.
I am an American, and the blend of influences that have flowed through my life are all rich rivers of influence. Childhood included a formal religion, German and Irish influences. Then came a rapid succession of new interests: runes from the Viking times, Hebrew as used in Magical Qabalah, West African Vodoun influences, and now a concentration on the American English Alphabet that I have worked with as an initiated Scribe for the last 40 years.
Since I Can't Travel, I Learn Alot About Other Cultures Viewing The History-Discovery Channel. I Have Had The Opportunity To Have Neighbors From Other Countries Which Helped To Enlighten Me In Many Areas. |
