What cultural sources do you draw from the most?

Whohub

My Asian Heritage and my British surroundings are what influences my work

I'm an African-American Carribean Jewish woman. So I have lots of cultural refrences to draw from.
I also love to learn about other cultures especially Japan.

Esoteric writings and the modern day Internet

English and German mostly. Perhaps some Asian influence.

Asian, West Coast and Southern Cultures.

Definitely the LGBT community.

i'm very much interested on Shilouttes...mostly dark environments and shadows

Music and working with the homeless.

Not really sources, I use the web a lot to get new ideas.

My cultural references are a product of my generation - I grew up watching PBS shows like Sesame Street, and cartoons like The Flintstones and The Smurfs. In my early teens, music channels such as MuchMusic, along with video shows, sitcoms and movies made a solid imprint on my developing mind. I can sing along to almost any song from that period that made it to the radio!

Today, I still draw from what is current in terms of fashion, the news and being able to identify trends but I also pull a lot from my family's influence, and the history they survived. My Mother is British, and I was born in Canada, so those two geographical locations, and their cultural makeup are stamped permanently into my character and personality.

Visual kei.

I don't really have a definitive answer for this question, I draw from those people, situations and places I am most familiar with. I tend to work with what I feel I know. I shall try to expand on this question from now on and draw this into my future works. (Thank you for that question)

American movie studios during the "golden age" of Hollywood. I have been loving classic films since I was a child and I collect books on movie actors from the 20s to the late 50s. The creation of a glamorous image and lifestyle is very "rags to riches" for me. I also look at other cultures from around the world, books on Tribes and Tribal rituals fascinate me. High Fashion photography from the 50s, Break dancers, Punk rock music, Opera, the Renaissance. I have very eclectic interests.

The most intimate aspects of communities, people, and what's taking place around me globally. Jazz and hip-hop culture are also helpful cultural sources.

music and food
