What cultural sources do you draw from the most?
My lawyers have suggested I refuse to answer this.
I don't really draw from one culture anymore, when I did it was only commonsense to me, to draw from the American one. Because it was made up of so many. But then as I grew older, I realized the American culture is, some what of a Sampler platter, if you will. Now I try to find out about everything in this world and use it to my advantage. As any young person should.
Which ever fits best! I'll do the necessary research before hand regardless if it is my writing, art or handmade goodies. Work seldom fits into one source because elements can vary so much. If the cultural cap fits my work will wear it.
Anything really. I try to keep an open mind. Obviously as a vintage inspired fashion designer and seamstress, movies, music, magazines, pictures etc. are a big inspiration, blogs I follow, current fashions are occasionally an inspiration, exhibitions I go to.
I suppose it would be my Irish heritage.
all the creative ones
Everything.
Everything possible.
Bali culture ,many cultures such as dance, celebration day. Cultural resources that attract
is the traditional clothes and musical instruments.
I am a North Dakotan of Norwegian and German decent. My cultural sources are the Norwegian piety and optimism of the land with dreams so big only the North Dakota sky can contain.
My German need for order use to paralyze me as a child until I learned to defeat that fear and play with it.
My aesthetic is drawn from the rural decay of old barn wood, rusted metal and the alluvial soil and tilled earth with that vast blue reaches of the North Dakota sky.
Popular images, things that people recognise because of the abstraction. It is nice to draw very little and if it's recognisable, you make the minds think and finish the drawing.
Honestly I look to my children and what they like. Whatever movies or games their into I start designing around.
The Non-friendly, Egoistical, cold one.
i dunno
Mostly from earth and its inhabitants and ideas about the universe. |
