What do you recommend I do with all those things I wrote years ago but have never been able to bring myself to show anyone?
Read them again and improve them. You'll be surprised.
Read them again, and decide if you would be embarrassed by them, or if you can amalgamate them into something new and better
I believe everybody evolves as a writer. And everything you havn't shown in the past won't be as good as your new stuff. So don't show it to anybody, because those old stories are basically written by somebody else you've once known in the past.
That depends on what it is. Some things are meant to be private and some things are meant to be shared. Use your best common sense to decide which category your writing falls under. If it should be shared, you can either publish online, send to a publisher, or start small with a friend or family member you trust.
I strongly advise you to go through them and find the story that is the most original one, the one that "excites" you the most. When you find that special "story" it drives you. You become passionate about it. That passion reads in your writing voice and the reader hears it.
Run the idea by someone.
Then finish it!
Don't give up!
Repeat these words after me: "Yes I can!"

Show them to someone or burn them.
Show them to people who are experienced writers and can give you constructive criticism, then work on improving them, even if it is just for the experience.
Polish them and send them out to publishers.
I would read them again and show them to someone you trust and feel comfortable with.
Join a writing group and ask for feedback. If you can't share your work, you'll never become an author.
Don’t leave this world with the music still in you. If you have a passion to write, sit down and do it! Take a tiny note book with you everywhere and jot down your ideas. The difference between a writer and a published author is that the later actually did the writing, rather than thinking or talking about it. Above all, write. I can’t think of anything that brings more personal satisfaction than seeing the result of your creative efforts in print. Even though the traditional publishing world is undergoing enormous upheaval, these days there are more opportunities than ever before to get published. Soul Wings® Press has helped many authors get their stories into print. Never give up!
Know your worth and dust it off and show them! You never know what will happen if you hide your talent.
I really think you should show someone.. someone close to you whose opinion matters to you.
Never throw them out! You could be throwing out the next best seller and not know it! Read them, improve them maybe even fuse them together. But definitely don't throw them.
I want to share a quote that I truly believe and that everyone should remember.
'A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit.' - Richard Bach
Re-read them! They might be better than you remembered... |
