WRITING
What discipline do you impose on yourself regarding schedules, goals, etc.?
write in the morning
I write and read every day. If I manage to do that, I'm all set.
Really, I've been pretty undisciplined about my writing. It seems to happen in spurts, in between work-related demands, although as of recently, I am making a concerted effort to write on a more routine basis. I know better, though, than to jump off a cliff and go from where I am now to writing a blog post everyday, so I've deliberately started small with somewhat of a loose goal in order to set myself up for success. As my writing habits grow better, I can amp up my metrics.
Oh my, none! I am far too rebellious even to stick to self imposed schedules, goals etc. I set goals and objectives and work toward them while always trying to maintain flexibility and spontaneity.
I don't actually, I write when I feel like writing, when the creativity is there. When it isn't, it feels forced and wrong.
I have no problem with that. I have always worked with very tight schedules and have managed to find my time to write. I just sit down and write.
schedules i always write stories/novel in the afternoon or midnight
i'm not complicated, so my goals is just so humble... my goals is just want to entertain the reader and giving something new to my reader..
and then.. to write stories when we feel bad ,, i usually take a sleep and refreshing your mind... to write story is not a job but it's a hobby.. i dont really putting much discipline .. to write is a passion of life.

Since medical issues continue to plague me, I have gotten better at managing my time and achieving daily goals. I used to just bang out all kinds of articles, so I'm looking forward to getting more into a groove with that again.
When working on a book, I take time out of my schedule to go sit in a coffee shop and write with pen and paper. I find the words flow best when I'm away from the computer. I usually only write as much as a chapter a day. I don't push myself and overdo it unless I feel especially inspired that day.
I am struggling with schedules now and trying to stay on task is a problem for me so I am not a great person to ask how to impose scheduling!
I am constantly trying to accept the complete mess that I make.
I have to write and publish something to Fiction Improbable every day. It doesn't have to be long; technically even a sentence would suffice, though I try to write a lot more than that. The important thing is to sit down every day and write SOMETHING.
I TRY to write a bit each day. It is HARD though because i am also a doctor and there are very busy times. I try to do 1 or 2 books a year.
Honestly, I take spells of writing every day and chucking it all aside for months. I am choosing to know that my writing group will help with that. I need goals and deadlines.
Quit fucking around, and write. If you don't hold your balls to the fire, no one will do it for you. Society would rather see you a garbage man before they'd ever give you a red cent for your art. Goals continually need to be met, and sped past. At least a page a day, AT LEAST. If you've got a bad case of cobwebs, write some poetry, or an article, but always keep moving.
I have no discipline. I am seriously rubbish at goals and schedules and making myself work. My only real discipline is that I love it and I feel itchy and strange if I go too long without writing. I do take deadline seriously, however, and can force myself to write like a beast if I must. |
