Do you participate in competitions? Have you received any awards?
No competitions... I have had a poem published about 12 years ago, in a book. You get awards on the websites I publish on.
I haven't entered a competition YET.
The only compettion ive took part in if you can call it that is Authonomy.
i once judged a youth chilli cook off for the local christians boys brigade...my reward was satisfactiion
I used to when I was younger. I participated in science contests, I was in karate, ballet, and horseback riding. The lowest medal I ever receive was because I was in a group of 3 people whom did not study.
I was a semi-finalist for the Disney Fellowship. I've been awarded a few grants. The past two years, my one-acts PORTLAND and HOLD were awarded in the Coastal Empire Play Festival in Savannah.
Sometimes. I do participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and Actually made the goal last year, so as far as awards go that's the only one I have at the moment. However I do occasionally participate in other competitions.
I used to more often than I do now. I once won First, Second, AND Third in one of the bigger Hollywood competitions. I've won for screen and television specs. I haven't really entered the novels.
I have sometimes competed, usually in poetry, and yes, I have won awards. I am gratified by the awards, but I am sometimes mystified even when my work has been a winner or honorable mention. I am also mystified when some of my pieces aren't winners when I compare them to what did win. This shows that the literary judgments are subjective, but that does not mean such contests are without merit. Because there are so many different tastes out there, being able to identify which works in your preferred field have merit is worthwhile, even if it does not do justice to all the works in existence. Contests are starting points, not end points.
In the field of tanka poetry I have won, placed, or had honorable mentions in the World Poetry Contest, the San Francisco International Tanka Contest, the Tanka Splendor Awards, the International Tanka Contest, the Saigyo Award, the Moonset Award, and others. My poetry also appears in Take Five : Best Contemporary Tanka.

I came in second place in an erotic writing competition once. I don't enter competitions really.
Finding work is competition enough for me.
