Yes, and Yes.
In seventh grade, i entered a red ribbon week speech contest. many other people entered, but i ended up winning. Though i have stage fright i had to read my speech in front of the entire school, and then later on talk with the superintendent, i remember thinking i had been in trouble.
and then another competition i entered was the Literacy Confrence, 80 students got to be in a published book and meet a famous author. i was one of the 80, i got to go to a very fancy dinner, meet a really good author, and get an award for being in the book. i was very happy with that.
Not really. I'm not really the competitive type. Even though I'm sure winning awards would help sell more copies, it's not something that particularly interests or excites me.
I participate in competitions, usually offered by my school. I won 2nd place in the FPS (Future Problem Solvers) Short Story Scenario Writing contest on statelevel in Texas, and 9th in the international competition.
I plan to enter a contest as soon as I have some superfluous copies of my book, to submit. I received scholarships in college, but have not been directly competitive since.
No awards yet, other than the satisfaction of completing my first book.
I don't like doing competitions, because once you send it off, the story really isn't yours anymore. The company could publish it, and take the rights of the characters that I might want to use in a later story.
No I haven't participated in competitions.
I have not participated in any competitions nor have I won any awards. I will wait for God to lead me on that path if He so chooses.
Not really.
In high school, I won a copy of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights at a poetry contest. And I was recently in the spotlight section at: www.ourecho.com
As I stated before, I write for myself. The only reward I seek is the compliment of a reader. I haven't, nor will I ever participate in competitions.
No, they are all scams.
The last time I participated was in 1998 and won a contest for a novel. I have also won reading time on the radio and short short story awards. I have not participated in recent contests because I have been lost to my children these past few years.
Presently, I am only a member of one writing group, Dog Writer's Association of America (DWAA.org), they do have annual writing awards, but I haven't won yet. Members consider themselves canine journalists, not dog writers. We're a great group, many dog trainers, some dog breeders, some medical specialists, but we all have one thing in common, we love our hounds!
Not normally. I have sold short stories and a novel; that's my award.
I do. And, yes, I received third place in a contest once. I am working on a novel now that I plan to enter in a contest.
I haven't participated in writing competitions much. I have, however, been published many times. |
