Do you participate in competitions? Have you received any awards?
No! However I did enter for a Sir Peter Ustinov Award and recieved a special mention for my effort. They even sent me a certificate. NICE!
No. I do not participate in competition especially when you are asked to empty your pocket.
I don't ordinary enter competitions, but I win a prize locally for writing a story set in a nature preserve nearby.
I do. The International Screen Writing Awards, Scriptapoloza, Scream festival. I haven't received awards yet, but I'm new to the competitions. So Soon, with all of my revisements.
I haven't as yet, but I would. Usually the competitions are limited to 3,000 to 5,000 words and I use that many in my first few chapters.
I sent in a few poems to competitions when I first began writing. I won first place in the Writer's Digest National Poetry Competition in 1977 with a poem about sky diving. After that I figured I'd better quit while I was ahead.
A few. I have won a few things. I am getting a piece ready now for a contest.
Competitions - I did one. I sent in a partial of a peice that was sold to make a point and I got back - gvie up writing, this is terrible, you have no talent. The piece had sold and I had made quite a bit of money on it yet the judges told me to quit. If I had sent that piece prior to sale and was insecure about my talent I might have quit.
Yes, I have received some awards. I rec'd two honorable mentions in the Deep South Writer's Contest many many years ago in 1972.

Yes. Several. Most notably ForeWord magazine's 2005 Silver Book of the Year award for General Fiction for my novel, "Without Grace" and ForeWord magazine's 2007 Gold Book of the Year award in the category of writing for "The Author's Guide To Planning Book Events."
