No, to date I haven't submitted any of my writings for competition. However, I may in the future.
Rarely, I finished 1 place out of the running recently for a book I'm crazy about writing. I'll send it out there again and see how it does. Contests, like taste, are very subjective.
I participated in a contest in high school and received third place. I'm not a competitive sort, so I don't bother anymore.
No I have not participated in any competitions so far.
At least once a year I send a few screenplays into competitions and also my short stories. I am starting to get more interest. I am discerning about what I send and when. They are often a good way to motivate oneself to get a story written and send out, but as a true gauge of merit I have my doubts. A screenplay I wrote once got a quarter-finalist finish in a major competition. A biography I co-wrote got a prestigious international award and a nice large amount of money, but these are not things one can dine out on. Again, they were the icing on the cake, but did not take me to the next level.
A few, but not many. They get expensive, and I'd rather take those fees and apply them toward sending stories to agents and publishers.
But at the moment, I'm a quarterfinalist in Amazon's Breakthrough Novel Contest. Keeping my fingers crossed!
I really have two opinions about competitions. You're sort of forced as a writer to compete with others but that's not why you write. In fact, it's probably, like marketing, got nothing to do with writing. I figure if an editor publishes something of mine, I've succeeded.
No. I do not like the idea of competition. The arts are about cooperation and sharing, in my view.
No, to both questions but I have thought of entering competitions.
I was awarded by poetry.com when i was 11. In teens I was given a few medals for being the best writer in English while i was studying in NY..
I have recently entered a book contest. I have not received any awards to date.
My writing isn't about competing. I haven't received any awards.
My work has not been entered into any competition. Such things are mostly fraudulent, hinging upon politics or favoritism.
Of late, no, I haven't entered any competitions. I may in the future. As a teenager I entered several and won many awards and certificates.
