Deep down inside, who do you write for?
I weave the thread of my words into the fabric of the universe - sounds pretentious doesn't it? But I believe it. Of course, I love my work being appreciated by other people, but when the last human dies, each and every thought and deed of every human being will resonate forever in eternity. There's no point otherwise, is there?
Myself.
Myself - I know that as writers we are meant to be writing for others, but there is a growing faction that now admits to writing for themselves, amongst them Philip Pulman. Also, if you are writing for yourself you are bringing something forth that you feel is very worthwhile saying, which will have the weight of personal conviction behind it if written well.
I love to write for children and teenagers but I also write for adults.
Reading has gotten me through some very tough times in my life. When stress and emotions were way too high, a good book removed me from the situation even if just for a little while. There was a time in my life when I had the capacity to turn to alcohol or drugs to escape, but reading saved me. I say this to point out that I write primarily for people like me, the ones who need an escape for just a little while. If I can give that tiny bit of enjoyment, I've succeeded. Now, don't get me wrong: I also write for myself because it IS a form of therapy and self revelation. There is also a tremendous sense of accomplishment from finishing a chapter, a story, or a full novel. My second novel, as of this interview, is being mildly entertained as a publishing possibility but the greater joy is in the accomplishment of finishing it!
First and foremost I write for myself. If I don't enjoy the story I'm writing, then no one else will.
i write to express my self.
inside me there is a place that i call my "intuition", it is the place where i meet other people.
Everyone, including myself.
Everyone, including myself.
I've never thought very much about this. I write because I enjoy creating stories.
It's a creative urge that I need to fulfill.
For me... I like to write, and for those who like my writing. To hell with the begrudgers...
Myself, Lets be honest, primarily we all write for ourselves and the enjoyment. I love to write. I hope and pray that others will get some enjoyment out of what I write.
The air I breathe.
Myself.
Sometimes for the person I'm in love with.
I have been given the God-given gift of storytelling. Why? I have no idea. I only know that this is the road I am meant to travel, so I do. It is a passion that has been driving me since I was a child old enough to understand who I truly am. |
