Are you equally good at telling stories orally?
N/A for poetry. I can recite a lot of poems from rote/memory if that counts (LOL).
Well, I tell stories to my brothers and sisters every night before they go to bed so I believe I am good at it because they don’t seem to bore.
I don't know. I have never before given a public reading, since I am writing most of the time and selling my books at shows. I can read well since I have had drama in high school, so the opportunity has to come at some point.
No. I do much better writing stories when I have time to think about the details and edit roughly drawn verbal sketches. I failed the oral exam for my psychology license but my written appeal resulted in my receiving a license. Then I knew I could write better than talk.
Better. Because I use different voices when I tell a story.
In terms of non fiction, I tend to write exactly as I speak so...I guess my answer would be yes.
I think so. My students at the university have enjoyed my stories.
I am not always good at telling a story. I am shy and sometimes that gets in the way.
Yes. The key is knowing your subject. It's like sales, and your selling your story to the listener.
I don't think so - I believe when I write anything amusing it seems to be way funnier than if I were to ever say it out loud. Writing a story allows for some form of structure without losing focus as you can continue to edit and add or delete until you feel it is a complete concept.
Nope.
I was an actor and have a flair for dramatics. In fact it was my flair for telling stories orally that forced me to try to emulate that gift into my writing.
The power I have within lies in the written word, as I express what is contained within me. It does bleed over to the oral realm, wherein I use words skillfully like a sword, that cut those swiftly who come against me. But when I speak, I look carefully at what I am saying as I say them, and put my heart and soul in communicating what lies within. In sharing a thought, story, or idea, I give what is honest, and right.
"Words have the power of life or death in them. They can create and uplift life, or destroy them both. Skillful usage and application is necessary in wisdom and understanding." .....Jon C. Randall

I'm getting better, touring around my town to local day cares it's a lot of fun. Went to a private pool club for the ages of 3 on up about 25 kids looked the way I read. So you could say I love to hear the children laugh & giggle over a book or story that I wrote.
It has now become my most important issue now.
Trying to get out too more places to read, and wanting more time on T.V, and Radio interviews. Been on CNN Comcast Spot Light in 2005 T.V interview 5 Min., GlobalTalkRadio 2005, and Blogtalk radio based in Texas in 2008.
I'm also happy to have a book signing at Clayton books, and they have 2 of my books now.
Thank you Mr.Joel Harris.
I'm always trying to find more places to read.
I'm setting up another event at Family First after School Program to read to Kindergarten thru 3rd grade, I'm waiting till Jan.7th, as school resumes then. and they'll give me date then.
