What is your favourite type of customer?
The one that has a clear view on what his goals are. The one that knows, that his own taste might not be the taste of his audience. The client that you can talk and argue with to achieve a more brilliant product/design.
My opinion differs from some designers. My favorite type of client is any client. Occasionally you have a difficult client, but it's how you approach them.
Musicians, Singers, other artists.
My favourite customer is the kind of customer that knows what they're looking for and presents all that information upfront.
The best customer that one can wish for is the one that does not want to change too much in a design. This usually only leads to disaster and those designs are often totally ruined. I like a client to just tell me what they want and then leave me to it and give me the freedom to veer away from their original plan and make it into something even better.
The one's who pay well ... HAHAHA. Seriously I find the ones who are repeat customers whom you form good (professional) friendships with. One springs to mind, working for 6 years with the Australian Grand Prix Corp - fantastic people, incredibly exciting work and supremely satisfying.
I'm not much for knowing the consumers in the design world. If you're asking in the serving industry I could tell you all about it though. People who talk, people who know what they want but are still willing to listen to suggestions, people who laugh when you do something dumb/make a mistake/make a joke, people who pay according to your work, and people who are genuine and who know the quality of the work they are receiving and the product they are receiving as well.
I think I still might be on the right track for design customers as well.
People in the creative industry that 'll give you "Carte Blanche". Because you can create innovative and more experimental stuff.
The clients that trusts my design and experience. They hired me for my work, and allow me to have creative freedom.

The client who has a strong set of goals in mind. You can't measure beauty. It's subjective. You can measure sales, traffic, contacts, etc.
My favorite customer is one that asks questions before they purchase and pays promptly and is most importantly friendly and sincere.
The one that answers questions about the project when you need them to. Good communication is always important.
A customer who respects the design process and trusts my opinion as a professional in my field. Let me tell you, that is a dream client! |
