What is your favourite type of customer?
People who know what they want, or know it when they see it.
One that is open and aware to the fact that they hired me to come up with the answer for them.
The kind that respects your opinion and pays on time.
That very rare client who give me freedom to do what I want and use my best judgement rather than micromanaging the design/illustration AND pays on time.
Easy going, who is a little creative and likes ideas out of the box, and who trusts us to be creative and deliver a great project.
The mythical ideal customer... one who:
- knows what they want
- trusts our input
- does not insist on horrible colour combinations or fonts
- respects the profession
- and of course, pays promptly
Professionalism is most important to me. If a client doesn't understand the process or is too busy or preoccupied with other things to be involved in the process, then the project is either going to take much longer than it should, or other complications will come into play. I am very up front and clear about this with all who choose to work with me. Communication is key. If you have a question, ask it. If you have a comment, share it. My favourite clients stay on top of the work we're doing but they also exhibit a certain degree of patience because they understand that greatness is typically not achieved over night.
One with an open mind.
Easy going people who either know what they want or trust me to do my job.
I learn something from every client. The more challenging ones tend to teach me the most. Clients who can voice their likes/dislikes effectively, and have a clear idea of what they want to convey are very helpful, but I would be hard pressed to choose a "favorite".
I like businesses that do something positive for society in some way. I stay away from retail and such. I like clients who understand communications already and are familiar with the process.
My "favorite" type of customer is one that is knowledgeable about the product and is aware of the time, cost and ability needed to create the work.

Big challenger but choose you to do your job as a designer. A trusting one when the arguments are good ;)
