What voice do you find most to your liking: first person or third person?

Whohub

I prefer first person as you can get right inside the head of the main character. However, it is hugely limiting in terms of plot development and characterisation. You can only experience what the writer is experiencing and perceive other characters as the writer sees them.

Third person, though I like to experiment with tense and pace.

I prefer writing in first-person. It's much easier and I think it makes the story more personal.

It doesn't matter. The writing itself makes more of an impression on me. Some people can't pull of the basic plan of showing not telling. That is what spoils a story for me.

Since I mostly write sketch comedy, I guess first person. And in general, it grounds things in reality, and the readers and/or viewers, can relate to what they experiencing. They can put themselves in the characters shoes.

Third.

I find I do enjoy first person reading. I feel that it gives me a vivid window of what the person is actually feeling. It feels almost real when you read. Third person is okay. Its great when it comes to descriptive writing about someone else. I like to feel involved.

I prefer reading third person - so you'd think I would find it easier to write. But that's not the case: when I'm writing I find first person easier but am getting better with third person.

I enjoy third person best I think. For me though, a story must have both to really grab a person's brain and shake it. I want to know what's going on at every angle. It keeps the story moving and interesting from any point of view.

I know (and was taught) to write in the third person (or neutral). However, it has always been a problem for me that I switch often and this is something that goes to editing....no one is perfect.

I love writing in the first person. It's so easy to let yourself go. It's good for short stories but it can be restrictive for longer works. But read Dave Egger's wonderful memoir, A HEARTBREAKING WORK OF STAGGERING GENIUS for a taste of good first person narrative. My novels are all in the third person.

For novels or short stories, even interview articles, I definitely lean towards third person. Many of my writer friends say first person personalizes the story... but I find it restrictive.

For screenplays/scripts it's always third person, so you can be drawn into the life presented to you on the screen.

I enjoy writing with both, and I even used both in one story I concocted. Although, I find writing in first person puts a lot of pressure on the writer because those reading automatically assume that it's the writer talking, and not the character. Which can be true, as it's also true all writers draw from their experiences in real life, but it can be bothersome if one takes the writing too seriously.

First Person.

It actually ranges but lately I've been using first person, but if I have to switch up the storyline for a while then I'll add a chapter or two of another person's perspective. Draws away from the Main character and gives the minor characters some recognition. Show the readers their feelings and thoughts.
