If you have to hire an assistant, what qualifications and qualities do you look for when making your choice?
Subject to Political correctness gone mad and it subsequently being one all time pet hates, I'd like to answer in a style which will have women's libbers campaigning again for the Death penalty.
She'd have to be a former stripper and model, with legs you could wear as a scarf, firm breasts, insatiable in every way and keen to do whatever it takes to progress, good at making Tea as well...
Experience, expertise, and a desire to advance.
Magnetism.

In this industry you are constantly Learning so qualifications never count for much. I major thing to have is drive. A need to want to succeed. Eventually there will be days where is all gets on top of you, and that drive is usually the only thing that can see you through those bad days.
Reliability, accuracy, compatibility personality-wise, managed expectations, completing traits and attributes that will help fill in what's missing, or at least make better what already is. and off course creativity, understanding tech and social networks, etc...
I would look for an excellent communicator who is good with self direction and initiative and an eye for detail! Preferably tech savvy and great with building simple effective systems.
most importantly that they should be a reasonable person with a healthy curiosity
There are a lot of things people can be trained to do. But what I find most important that is hard to actually learn is the ability to think strategically. I don't care how many likes you generated on your sorority Facebook page. I care how you engaged with those who liked the page; how you did research and captured the interest of those most relevant; how you handle not-so-pleasant situations. I am very strategic with everything I do, so it is hard for me to have patience with someone who is not. Ask my husband. ;-)
Passion, curiosity, ability to self-start, intelligent approach to problem solving.
that he/she has additional skills compared with me and 1+1=3
And that we level on personal communication and has enough humor, energy, creativity and wants to work hard and make a difference
Someone who can see (or at least understand) my vision, is bright, swift, thinks on their feet, has a sense of humor, and knows what it's like to work for a living--without fear or excuses. The ability to handle my temperament (admittedly not always easy) is also a very huge plus.
It has to be someone you gel with and can bounce ideas off of and around with. I think it would be quite difficult if you hired someone to work with who is completely technically competent but you have no rapport with. You'd also have to love their style.
Professionality, emotional intelligence, reliability, capacity for enthusiasm
Eager, friendly and reliable
I don't need an assistant. But if I did, it would probably just be my friend, I am only 16. |
