Design was inculcated in me. My Mother always had projects going on at home, either painting, crafts, carpentry. My Grandmother loved to knit, and sewing became second nature to me because of her love of creating garments. Our household was full of creative types, whether it was my Grandfather, who did gold-leafing and a dozen other things with his hands, or family friends, who were artists, musicians, and the like. With an upbringing such as I had, it was inevitable that my steps should be guided towards the arts. First it was costume, and clothing, and segued into millinery in the early 1980's.
I've always been interested in art and illustration, so that to a career in design
I am drawn to all forms of art. It is very difficult for me not to be, so as a result I use all tools that are available to me.
When we began to build up our website, it was very confusing for us, especially the layouts and the gadgets that were available for us to use.
Now, it's must easier because we're more experienced with the web design concept.
I think it started with comicbooks. I grew up reading comic books and have always been fond of everything involved in comicbook-making; story, pencilling, inking, lettering, etc. I then grew very fond of the cover art of fantasy and sci-fi novels -very rarely the actual stories though- just the way the artist would be able to portray the whole concept of the story with one grabbing image really fascinated me. And then there were movie posters, and then there was the internet, which introduced me to so many things such as gig posters, the history of posters associated with social struggles, typography, and so on.
Slowly what I began to realize what all these things have in common is the art of clever communication, and that's what I really love.
The fact that design is everywhere you look. From the milk package to presidential election campaigns
My love for art. I grew up with a pencil and paper in my hand and love the idea of finding creative solutions to interesting problems.
I was always interested in architecture and photography growing up, but the school I went to did not offer architecture so I started taking design classes.
Watching my father growing up who is a pinstriper / sign painter. I also seem to just have a natural talent for drawing / creating thus a passion that i have refined into solving problems for clients. |
