Which has been your experience with conflicts between direction and production?
As we shoot everything ourselves, there is little conflict - it is more baout understanding what is achievable, as we are keen to establish the intention before we go into production.
I only can have problems with time, if we have arranged something for some period of time and we have a good timeline and there are problems in production with that it ca get very stressful
I enjoy working with people I trust. Any director would be lucky to be working with a staff of well equipped production people that have years of experience. But there is a silent joy working with people you know. They might not be as seamless and as seasoned, but they'll be loyal and cooperative.
Never really had any conflicts with anyone on my films. I've had to work with massive egos, but that's it really. And when you're working with an ego, the best way is to placate them. Just let them think they're in control, when really you're pulling the strings.
I had a producer on my first film. Nobody wants to fully trust you without a track record. Its a catch 22 situation. You are fighting for control all along the way. Thats why top directors like Chris Nolan, Rodriguez, Peter Jackson funded and shot their first movies. They got to show a vision with nobody telling them what to do. Thats why they are who they are today. You take a chunk of money at the start, you get handcuffed
Too many to name. One hopes for a nice situation between the set and the suits, but it's not always so. Both sides, however, must always try and be reasonable about demands and monetary considerations. If they are, most situations can be fixed and/or accommodated with little apparent conflict.
Directors can ALWAYS use more time, production is there to manage the day. It's a natural push-pull.
If you mean the limitations of production vs cash, well that hits us all doesn't it? There's never the luxury of time that's why you rely on amazing actors who can come up with the goods in the time frame that you have.
