What advice would you give to those just beginning?
Develop a solid work ethic. Don't rely on inspiration, make yourself work and the inspiration will come.
Just be honest with yourself.
Being an artist is not a guarantee to fame and fortune.
Most artist don't make it "big" but to me as long as you like what your doing you'll be happy.
I just want to do what I like and if money and fame comes, cool!
If not I know that others enjoy what I do and get it and that to me is worth more than money and fame.
Be patient. Don't be afraid to try many things and do not give up until you find something that works.
Never let anyone stand in your way. Do what you feel on the canvas you've chosen and the medium you've selected.

Go with your heart.
Don't be a copycat. Find your own voice.
DON'T unless you just can't help it.
be unique, but respect what exists.

Whatever your medium is work in it as much as possible, the more you work the more it becomes a part of you. The old saying practice makes perfect.......... is not far from the mark.
The same advice Nike has given everyone - "JUST DO IT!"
Be true to your artistic vision. If there is not an established market for your work, build one. Do what pays the bills to get by, but don't compromise your principles.
Make what you love, that way if it doesn't sell, you'll enjoy having it around.
Don't expect to paint only because you want to be a successful artist. The odds are slim. Paint because you love the process, love the beauty of what you are doing. |
