When did you start cooking? Who got you started in this art?

I started cooking when I was eight. My first dish was chicken cacciatore. My mother got me started.

I started when I was about 8 or 9 years old when I could read a cookbook. Basically my parents woke up one Saturday morning and I had made muffins. They were a little freaked out by the fact that I had used the oven. But my mom watched me the next time and realized I knew how to use it. From then on I was self-taught with free run of the kitchen and cookbooks.

I started cooking when I was about 6. My grandad was a cook and we made apple pies and scones together. By age 8 I was getting up early to cook hot breakfast for the family.

I started cooking when I was about 6, my parents taught me how to poach eggs.

I think I have always been into cooking/grilling over open fire but honestly my parents and an Aunt of mine were the biggest influence on me to get into it. I have been avidly cooking for over a decade now and am extremely passionate about the ancient "kamado" medium that I now specialize in.

Began cooking for myself as a latch key kid.
Loved good food and never liked prepackaged stuff.

I started baking cakes when I was 6 years old. By the time I was 10 I was cooking complete meals. I decided to enter nutrition and dietetics when I was in grade 10. So, approximately 15 years old. It was suggested by my guidance counsellor - a Mr. Hawn. He said I scored high as a dietitian or a stewardess.

I started cooking at the age of 10-11. My parents both worked full time jobs, so we would have to make dinner for them. My mom and dad got me started on cooking and my gram taught me how to make some of my favorite dishes perfectly. I am self taught in the pastry arts, however.

I started cooking in our family's Hotel Restaurant when I was very young. I have never left really. My grandmother started me on this wonderful journey

I was quite young, maybe 4, and I always saw my mother cooking. She, by the way is a great cook. Since then, my interest in cooking has incresed.

I was raised in my grandmothers kitchen and my love of cooking stems from her.

After I got married. Self defense against beans and rice.
