When did you start cooking? Who got you started in this art?

Whohub

I started cooking in our family's Hotel Restaurant when I was very young. I have never left really. My grandmother started me on this wonderful journey

I started cooking when I was a child.  My mother and
grandfather influenced my passion
for cooking.

I was quite young, maybe 4, and I always saw my mother cooking. She, by the way is a great cook. Since then, my interest in cooking has incresed.

I was raised in my grandmothers kitchen and my love of cooking stems from her.

After I got married. Self defense against beans and rice.

I first started to get interested into cooking as a small child whenever I visited my grandmother and she would let me stand on a chair beside her at the stove to help.

I learned with my grandmother (mom's side) - every time I was fighting with my young brother she put me at time's out by her side, at the kitchen - so I watched a lot of stuff. Today I really enjoy cooking for friends, make a nice dinner...

I started cooking out of desperation - I loved good food, but I couldn't afford to eat out every night. During my 20's I rarely cooked for myself, choosing instead to date people who were better cooks than I.

I began to cook professionally in 1979. I was working in a 5 star hotel in San Francisco, and moved from being a cashier, to waitress and then found I loved cooking and went into pastry.

When I was 9. My grandmothers

I guess I was about 5 or 6 my cousin James and I boiled crawfish right there on Bayou Beouf, in front of the house. Man it was a cold day. I think in March. Me caught a bucket of crawfish, big red ones, fishing with bacon and string tied to a dried weed. Then he stole a pot, matches and seasoning from his mother and we threw some bricks together made a fire, filled the pot with water right from the bayou and placed it on the bricks. Got it to a boil and in went the crawdads. His sister Anna joined in and we gave some to our mon mon.

My mer mer. I would help her make cakes. Hell, every good Cajun from Louisiana starts cooking as soon as you can stir a pot.

My need to pay for beer in high school.

when I was child

When I got married, I decided to become a good cook. My husband encouraged me a lot.
