Is a work of art purchased, or is it better said, that it is the artist who is bought?
It is better said that someone enjoys a piece of art so much that they are willing to invest something (money, time, etc.) in order to enjoy that piece of art for a lifetime.
I would say each case is different. And people all buy for different reasons. In my case most people who have collected my work have been ones who want to support the arts and enjoy seeing a young person pursuing it. With my father, an established artist, they more offten buy the work of art for its execution and beauty rather than support.
Well if they like the art then they are more likely to come back for more.
Maybe both. Depends on the artist who painted it. Some give 100% emotion, while other just play. Who’s to really know, but the artist them self.

No - they own the work but it is just part of what I have done. On the other hand, the owner brings their own feelings to the piece so it becomes part of them too.
I believe that one is buying a piece of the artist when they purchase a work of art!
I like to think that someone purchases my art because they like my ideas and what I create from those ideas. They may never know who I am but they will always know my ideas.

They buy the art, nobody buys me. I keep on dancing to my own rythm and spreading my art.
