Must an artist reinvent him/herself everyday?

Whohub

Not everyday, but as often as they can. I think the important thing is to keep the ideas fresh and interesting. It's got to evolve, before the market and yourself get bored. As soon as I get bored of painting cityscapes or run out of any interesting ideas, I will have to paint something else.

Perhaps not every day, but sometimes andf often it is essential, otherwise you are merely imitating yourself.

"Everyday" is not the same as "every day". You may have common everyday experiences that come from things you do every day.

No, an artist need not reinvent herself everyday. We do however continue to learn and grow from our experiences and art; this will influence our work.

No, I kind of feel that I'm a personal "work" in progress...change and evolution is an ongoing process, so I guess it's more of incremental progress than something completely new everyday.

Maybe. Perhaps all humans have to. Living habitually, I mean, governed by habit, can corner us. I definately think we should at least be flexible and constantly aware of ourselves, our short comings and our opinions, and where these come from and whether we might not be wrong...

I think artists are in a priveledged position in as much as they are in the public gaze, our thoughts and feelings are presented for the world to witness... As such, I think it is our responsibility to be - at least - open minded and - at best - prepared to accept we are wrong and to look at the world through other's perspectives and to change.

Not necessarily, although I do think artists cannot help but progress in technique and skill with each successive work they make.

An artist is always reinventing him/herself..that's part of the creative process.

Not every DAY. Once a month or so. Maybe every ten years.

maybe... if it's part of the process

Only if he/she wants to drive him/herselt nuts. Successful art takes focus.

I think an artist should choose what they like and stick with it. Or, if they grow tired of it and want to do something else, go with that. Art isn't about fame or attention... Not to this extent, at least. If a person puts their all in to it and make genuine art that they enjoy, that will say enough.

No - you would wear your self out and make some pretty bad work if you reinvented yourself every day.

No I don't think you need to reinvent yourself every day, but I do think it's important to stay relevant and current while remaining true to yourself.

They have to be honest in their endeavour and they must refresh their search and their process.

A very personal detail for each one. I do not believe in the need to reinvent myself. I believe in being consistent and constructive to be able to achieve the objective of being an artist.
