Happiness and health: how much do they have in common, and how much myth is there in their relationship?

Happiness and Health is so closely intertwined, I think it's a often overlooked connection that we encounter far too often in our Western-influenced medical establishment. I do sense a shift though, as more and more people are slowly opening their eyes to the significance our sense of happiness plays in our overall health. Without going into too much detail, good health combines both our mental state and our physical bodies, and when a person is happy, it becomes easier to adopt a lifestyle that will enable that person to improve their health overall. The same can be said for the connection that develops when a person makes active, conscious choices towards maintaining a healthier body, both through responsible eating and regular exercise. These things can contribute to an overall state of happiness and contentment in other areas of one's life - it's a positive, ongoing cycle of rejuvenation and enjoying life to its fullest potential.

I know a lot of super healthy people who are not happy, and no one is happy to be around them. I know a lot of very unhealthy people who are happy, and people love being around them.

This is no longer a myth - latest neurological research clearly demonstrates the impact of a positive outlook on health and wellbeing. If I remember correctly, those who are positive have been shown to live 10 years longer... and how much happier were they in their long lives?

I'll find a good link to this research and post it here soon.

Dis-ease beings at the Spiritual level. If we are not doing well within our own personal soul/spirit, it effects the mind where the mental ques are set for the physical illness to set in.

With that in mind I will say that it's hard to feel good if you are not Happy.

It not a myth as to the relationship between Happiness and health. I believe that if you are not happy, you're not always happy.

Happiness plays a great deal into health. When someone is feeling down and gloom they are more likely to not take care of themselves - this leads to a domino effect for the rest of your body. I don't think there is much myth - I truly believe they go hand and hand. Those with a positive outlook seem to prevail over someone with a dire outlook. It can also be looked at the placebo effect - and happiness as the sugar pill (which is not a bad thing).

There isn't much of a "myth" about it at all. A healthy life will definitely help you be happy. They aren't directly correlated, but it's a scientific fact that they are very connected. Just look at how your mind and body work...

They are directly correlated. There is no myth. If you don't take care of your body, your mind will suffer the consequences. That applies vice-versa.

Without happiness there's no body able to work the way it has to. And there's no myth at all in my opinion, there can't be one without the other.

One doesn't guarantee the other, but they each influence the other to a large degree. Neither one is worth much on its own. There's always some myth to topics as universal and timeless as these, but there's also a lot of truth that gets passed over as cliche.

Wow, how can a person feel happy when they feel lousy, or have no energy?
I think that happiness and health are inextricably intertwined.

They are most definitely connected. A balanced mind leads to a balanced body.

Happiness and health go hand in hand, but there’s more to it than just that.

its hard to be cherful all the time .yes they go together

The two are enmeshed with each other.
