Why do so many artists and creators have such volatile personalities?
Because they are artists ;)
I think this is because there are so many options in art and art is ever changing, which makes artists have to be ever changing.
I believe that so many artist and creators have volatile personalities because it takes a lot of energy, time, and lack of sleep to create things. Often an artist pours themselves into what they are creating and leaves a piece of their heart in what they create. It is exhausting.
I think a lot of artists are volatile for a couple different reasons. First I think that a lot of artists have to have a sort of "scatter brain" personality in order to store all the different ideas they may have. This scatter brain personality can have its downfalls and one of them being that they may be inconsistent because they have so much on their mind. Second, a lot of artists may work on many different projects at the same time, and may not finish one completely for a long period of time because it may not "feel right" to them. This mindset may carry over into other aspects of their life, and can make them seem inconsistent.
I guess I wasn't aware they did.
Truthfully, a lot of artists I have known seem to suffer from disabilities or disorders, and that may contribute to not being able to accept conforming totally to the norm. You see, it takes a certain kind of mind to be able to break from the status quo and create something truly different. That kind of mind is often labeled as "abnormal" because it is unable to understand why most people would simply accept thinking a certain way when there are so many other sides to the picture.
Most artists go through much criticism throughout their lifetime of work-making regardless of how asethetically pleasing one person might think their work is, there will always be someone who disagrees. Many artists feel they have to defend their work and it's message and it may come off as volatile, but they are merely justifying the means.
Not all of us do! I guess its because they are so proud and defensive of their work that they see every other artist as competition, if not even BELOW them. I had a guitarist friend who had only been playing for five years, and he got really great... problem was... he KNEW he was good. He even stated once that he was better than Eric Clapton... I DON'T THINK SO.
That's the biggest thing, once people know they're good, then they get a big head. I still get flustered when I get compliments, so... I pray I don't get like that!
I was thinking about this the other day, and I have decided that every artist, I believe, feels a sense of ownership to every idea they dedicate time too. This could create such a volatile personality, if others intentions were to say that was their own idea.
This is an absurd question. No further comment is necessary.
Passion, our minds are different then most and to be honest most of us are a bit insane. Plus most of us want to effect people and love to upset the norm. |
