How do you evaluate whether an idea is good or not?
This is a very difficult thing to measure. I guess you could say that a more popular idea is better, but sometimes little gems slip by the masses. Also something that gains critical approval doesn't always become very popular. It comes down to what kind of artist your are and what pleases you personally. If find that I keep going back to an idea and keep finding more things i like about, or keep being able to build on it, then I think it's a good idea.
if it is funny or inviting or lightens things up
By the number of possibilities it creates.
Trial and error.
by giving it a try
Whether I can use it or not. I know, it's selfish.
When I'm done with a piece and look at it, it gives me that feeling of something akin to seeing my crush when I was still a teenager (kidding, well only half-kidding).Let me just say it like this, if it's a wave crashing on rocks, I can almost feel the spray of the water on my face; like there's no more boundary between reality and the piece.
My inner spirit seems to keep at me with ideas for a time and then I will try them and explore.
Evaluation is instinctive a gut feeling.
I cannot explain this, but I can explain what is good or bad about an idea.
It depends, but mostly just instinctively or intuitively I know.
Is good when i got it finalised, is not good when it can't be born...
If I can bring it to a realistic conclusion it is a good idea. If it can not be created with realism it is not good.
I try not to be too selective. I have created things I thought were junk, yet another thinks it is wonderful. Art is subjective and I at times do not see what others do.
