How do you evaluate whether an idea is good or not?
Based on my interest on it, if it's finish and I see a joke go away, it's not good. It's gotta give me an emotion, a good feeling. And sometimes I will color it first before I determine that, but that's just for my art. For other people's art, it's just how original and colorful it is and what impact it has on me. Yes, some should have detail, but sometimes even the simplest things can be wonderful. It's all in the artist.
My wife is my best critic nothing gets past her.
Sometimes I see something that I think would make a good burn, I take that picture and try to match it up with a medium that I think would compliment the idea. Sometimes it's a hit other times I start out and I just don't like the look or feel of it and that piece goes in the recycle pile!
The evaluation is a two step process for me. Generation of the idea is first and then practicality and the trial process of creating and testing then becomes the second phase.
It's not so much whether the idea is any good or not, rather whether I can express the idea to my own satisfaction.

I don't, not at first. I explore it, give it a chance...if it's good it will keep going, it will have a life of it's own and it will use me to carry it through to a true reality. If it's not a good idea, it just doesn't end up anywhere, it drifts away unborn.
Im not going to execute a piece if its theme has been done before, or if there is no risk involved. Im not going to pidgeon-hole myself into a category, aka the guy who paints the same monster add nauseum. Id love to do alot of ideas that I think are fresh, but theyve often been done already, and probably alot better.

I just go with the idea I have.
When im about 20% into it (off the 100% process) I usually see wether this idea is good or not, if not, well then I just wasted some time but that happens sometimes.
You can't know for sure If you havent tried!
I dot compare my idea was good or not. all ideas to take positive mind. then i do that ideas to drawing or painting........
I would have to run with that idea and see what happens. Often enough, after a fair amount of work I'd come to the conclusion that the idea isn't worth continuing with, but sometimes, that work pays off and the idea works.
