What is art?

Whohub

A leaf falling from a tree is nature. A creation inspired by the leaf, capturing the beauty of the movement of the leaf falling, or the feeling of the day, a quality of the wind or the light or the color, texture, shape -- that is art.

The definition of art is so broad, but to me, art is the creative expression of an individual or group. It can take many forms and is subjective.

Art is different things to different people, but for me it's anything that's been created by someone who defines themselves as an artist.

Art is anything you create that you take pride in. If you mow your yard really well and take huge pride in that, then that's your art. Nobody else may see it that way or care, but that's not the point. It all about you and your feeling and need to make this look the way you want it to.

For me, art is the expression of your inner self. As a human being we have the ability to formulate thought, an idea. Then we have the ability to find a suitable means to express it intelligently to others. Whether we use paint on canvas, graphite on paper, or moving images on a video cell, we are expressing our thoughts, and ideas for others to gain some inspiration. The ability to experience, and share an intelligent artistic expression is a joyous wonder! It is what makes us most like the one who made us.

What kind of question is that?

The best answer to this question lies in Calliope’s Sisters, Comparative Study of Philosophies of Art, Prentice Hall, 1990, by Richard Anderson. "Art is culturally significant meaning, skillfully encoded in an affecting, sensuous medium."

OR

My art is personally sublime when its meaning is significant – when skillfully encoded in an affecting, sensuous medium.

Trust that my life's work in pictures, paintings, sculpture, mixed media, digital design, posters, tiny faux garments on hangers, and assemblage are viewed with appreciation for my aesthetic value and critical thinking.

A work of art is a titled, signed, and dated piece presented to a prepared audience — an art show, another person, the refrigerator door, or on the internet. In a nutshell: Art is what I say it is!

I read somewhere that, "art is anything that reminds you to stay alive". Those words define exactly what "art" is to me...

If when you see something created by another human being, and you make a connection with it -- If it evokes an emotion, or gets you thinking a new way, it is art.

Art is an outward expression of the inner yearnings of the human soul.

you are looking at it.

Art is something only one person can create.
Both Liebnitz and Newton came up with the Calculus but if Picasso had
not created Les Demoiselles d'Avignon no one would have.

A nice, solidly painted/executed piece of work, with a good understanding of the basics.

Art is a process of self-discovery; a physical and very effective form of communication. It provides an opportunity to network and form new communities. Art is work. My ideas about what art is are constantly changing.

Art defies definition - it's something that is very personal to each individual and how they perceive things.
