What is art?
Art is an expression of ideas, thoughts and emotions. It is an important medium which can be used to bind people. Cartoon art is for entertainment and and to reflect on society -- it's goods and evils.
That's about as meaningful a question as what is god.
Why do we like a certain color? Why are we attracted to one texture over another, shape, form etc?
The simple answer is... we don't know.
We don't pick our favorite color. It just clicks in our brain.
Eye Candy - It's nice to just look and make your own decisions. I like everything I do, otherwise I woudn't do it!

Art is an universal language used by human beings since the begining of times.
When expression becomes tangible and is shared.
I enjoy art which contributes to my thoughts. It allows me to step into the life and times of another person and it lures me there in a seductive way. Art is sometimes cathartic,healing and educational.
Art was the work that had the values of beauty
Art is self-expression. A person expresses him/herself through art. Art should express one's intentions and should relay a message. It needs not to be pretty or beautiful, as long as it carries meaning.
It may be visual - costumes, paintings, drawings, photography, to name a few - through music, words or movement... but if it is an inner expression of one's emotions and ideas, it's art to me!
Whatever you want it to be, it is an infinite universe and the only limit is your imagination.
Art is a perspective, an expression, a commentary, an idea... a manifestation of any or all of these things. But it isn't much without an audience. So, it's also a dialogue, and a relationship -- perhaps most importantly.
Art is something create by emotions and also bringing emotions
Dang - this is hard to answer. Each time I start, I think of more facets to what i think Art is!
Art is the resulting product to an act of creative expression, (for me) inspired by vision and passion.
Art could be anything and everything...
This question is not to be answered in words. But let me have a crack at it anyway...
Take the question 'what is music?'. There are all kinds of sounds and noises around us. When a musician arranges an ensemble, harmony of sounds happens, a piece of music is born out of the random. Of course there is a cultural history for each musical tradition.
The appreciation of a specific art form depends on each person's art experience. The relevance of art varies from person to person. Some don't have art in their daily horizon, or they don't feel it at all. Others are born artists. For them, everything is art or somehow related to it. Many think there is no function or relevance to art without a socio-political objective or message. But knowingly or not, everyone experiences art. Nobody can escape it. There is art in our everyday life whether we see it or not. There is art even in 'anti-art'.
Art as a process exists in the collective memory of humanity. History of art tells us this very truth. Creating an art form is a personal choice. Some just enjoy the process and go. There can be a by product, a tactile art form or just the remaining memory of it. The quality one adds to an activity is interpreted as 'creativity'.
A water-strider does not leave 'drawings' on the surface. It just uses the surface tension of water and enjoys the ride!   | | |
