ENGINEERING
Aside from know-how, what qualities should an engineer have in order to be a successful professional?
i think the most important thing is "industriousness". in my perception smart work cares for a while but hard work takes care of always.
To be upto date with the new technology, have practical knowlege and skills. Most important is the proper understanding of concepts and ability for proper reasoning on various technical issues.
Concepts must be thorough and an engineer should have a crystal clear understanding in it. I have seen many of my college friends having inadequate knowledge of concepts related to 12th standard textbooks. It can result in frustration.
How much someone is intended to his profession.
An engineer needs to be creative, solution-oriented, and a good communicator. All the knowledge in the world will not help if you cannot convey your point across.
attitude and willingness to accept as it is
comprehensive, proactive and not being an asshole because of the hundred of certifications
Being able to think outside the box but deliver against practical, functional requirements. Predictability & repeatability

An engineer should be able to work across disciplines, with people of all level of experience and expertise. I think it is also important that an engineer have a level of creativity that they can use in problem solving and part design. Engineering and creativity should go hand in hand, because without creativity, problems never get solved and innovation never pushes the boundaries of what is currently being done.
Communication, although someones underrated, is key if you have to work and interact with other people. People's skills are always welcome and, sadly, many times lacking in engineers.
Imaginative skill do help at times but engineer should always be ready to learn from the junior engineers if he really what to be a successful professional
First of all, PASSION. Is the passion that drives the mankind to the progress. A good engineer, in my opinion, is one that loves which does. Passion leads to will and will leads to solution.
You should always respect others no matter what positions they are in. Needed to be a good listener as well as a team man. One should have creative mind set and always willing to take challenges. And presenting skills together with other soft skills will make a successful professional.
You should be able to learn from other and need to learn quickly and adapt to situation properly. |
