COACH
Do you have innate qualities, or is it something that you learned?
I like to believe I have innate qualities, such as professional speaking ability and communication skills, a healthy energetic body, compassion and insight into people mental and physical capabilities.
A bit of both for me. I have always been a good listener and empathiser and I have learned the coaching skills and techniques over the years. I am naturally intuitive, however it is something that I continually work upon to improve.
I am a great listener, I love working with people.
It has been said that I can tune into others wavelengths very easily and I feel that this is true. When I meet someone for the first time, I can intuitively sense where their strengths and weaknesses lie but more importantly I do not judge others. I treat everyone with respect regardless of the choices that they have made and do not try and implement the same regime of coaching for everyone. I tailor the coaching sessions very much to the individuals style of communication and in a manner that is comfortable to them. I give each of my clients my full attention, as their wellfare is deeply important to me. I also aide them in their goals outside of the appointments, whether it is through a phonecall or an e-mail, encouragement is very important to each individual's success.
I think it's a combination of the two. I love to teach and encourage others. Even as a kid, in every profession I have engaged in, I am at heart a teacher, coach and cheerleader. And I have a lot of patience and an innate ability to break an action or concept down to it's smallest step and guide a person through each step of a process to completion. But I also worked in schools and not-for-profit organizations learning some of the skills that help me understand better how to reach people where they are so I can help them get where they want to be. And I attended law school which taught me how to learn and think on my feet; and I have been a practicing law for over 17 years and understand what is needed to succeed in today's fast paced environment.
Innate qualities are a part of your makeup or personality but you can learn to enhance those qualities and use them to the fullest.
Innate qualities? Study? For sure a lot of study and in-depth analysis of close subjects concerning human development, learning and the business world and evolution.
Then, it's necessary to "cement" all this material with a huge passion and a true interest towards coaching and the coachee's progress.
I like reminding that the International Coach Federation (from now on "ICF") defines coaching an art, not a "job".
Both!
Coaching is definitely something I've learned - listening intently and asking solution-focused questions takes mindfulness and skill, which I've learned through Results Coaching Systems, now known as The Neuroleadership Group.
Leading people through change actually takes a variety of systems, creative thinking models and intuition, so I'm on a constant learning journey myself.
Enthusiasm, passion, commitment to others and a desire to learn and grow myself, to challenge myself and achieve what looked impossible are certainly helpful qualities that I've inherited, and developed along the way!
As with most things, yes and yes. I've always been good at learning, listening and seeking creative answers. I've also done massive amounts of learning to find out best ideas in coaching, in career development, psychology, and spirituality to bring to the process. As I continue coaching, I learn from each client, and keep on seeking out new creative tools and coaching ideas. Finally, I've developed the skill of creating a "space" for people in the way I listen and talk with them so that they feel safe and creative.
I have always been told that I should become a therapist, counselor or be in the field of helping other people achieve their full potential. My intuitive skills are highly involved in my coaching and counseling sessions and as a result what I've learner through my formal education has allowed me to be that much more effective as a coach.
As a teenager I was the person my friends would talk to when they had any problems, I think I was always a good listener which is Essential for a coach. There was a lot I have had to learn, from nlp to hypnosis but for me learning is a part of life and I love to learn new techniques that work for my clients
Both.
Both. Personal development is a never ending process - my empathic skills have been a great help.
I am a problem solver and very sympathetic to what others are feeling. So, i think when these two things are combined, it is what helps me to guide and motivate others when they are feeling really challenged. A big hurdle doing Beachbody workouts is the feeling of wanting to quit, or that it is too hard. I have been there - so, I use that experience to help others keep going even when they don't want to. |
