What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?
I'm a freelance graphic designer / illustrator. I guess I'm defined as an artist by the fact that I've created and sold my work, and other people have my work hanging on their walls...
I am a freelance illustrator. I like to think of myself as the 9 to 5 cartoonist back in the 30-50's. The guys who loved to draw and knew it was their trade, but also had a life outside of it.
I am an illustrator and motion graphics artist.
I do many different things. As an artist, I am constantly looking for new medium(s) to work with in order to create visually stimulating, and thought provoking work. I am a painter, illustrator, graphic artist, film maker, and teacher. That is why it is difficult for me to define myself, and lock myself into any specific niche. When I have a project, even if it is not a medium I have worked with before, I learn very quickly how to produce an interesting piece of work with it. That I think is what an artist does. We take a medium, and bend it to our will to create something interesting for the viewer to experience!
I draw pictures. I love pictures. Love love pixels. Pixallusions is what I call my drawings. I am addicted to making pictures. My primary focus is combining symbols that show the enduring American spirit they could possibly contribute positively to refresh America's identity. Giving form to ideas is what I do. Waiting for some positive reaction is the game.
I call each piece an "etude" in the lexicon of musical compositions. An etude is a study or technical exercise, completed in a visually intelligible composition that explores a technical problem, specific theme, and stylistic approach resulting in an esthetically satisfying piece.
Each art work says, “Hello Dojoro – you are not invisible. I made this ... there fore ... I am!” My work, like me, is autonomous, referring only to itself - or to me, myself. Categories be damned. Take a look at my work and YOU tell me what it is.
I create realistic portraits using traditional medium such as graphite pencil, colored pencil, pastel and pen & ink, placing a stong emphasis on child portraits and pet portraits.
I would define myself as a realist of portrait art alluding to a poignant perspective both in compositional simplicity and strength of purpose. I would define my work as emotive realism, characterized as a style of art evoking a passionate response, however subtle.
For me, being an artist is about communicating an idea, and there are infinite ways of doing that. People who seek out and explore new ways of conveying thoughts/feelings I consider artists.
I paint. I draw. I collage (although I hate that term). And I write a lot on top of all my drawings and paintings. I don't feel any particular need to define myself as an artist.
I see myself as primarily an illustrator, an illuminator of the written word. Secondly, I see myself as a fine artist a lover of warm and vibrant colors.
I am an artist. I don't like putting people or myself in boxes but sometimes we must so that others may peer inside and say oh I saw something inside that box and they can tell everyone else what it was they saw.We don't all see the same thing or explain it in the same way but after enough time has past you can began to feel like you are comfortable with what you think it is people are seeing when they look at you.I will not judge quantify or distill what or who it is that I am but I do have a penchant for the eclectic and have voracious eyes that cannot be closed when faced with a sunset or starry night. There is a dialectic between Socrates and some other Greek old dude where they discuss the true nature of artist and it is Socrates who insist that all artist are simply imitators of the creation and the one who created it . I happen to agree. We do our best to reflect the light that passes through us and share the moments the themes the chorus and rhythm that is the universe flowing through us as we emote onto canvas clay and computer .Still we always miss the the mark fall short of the goal and fail to get what it is that we are trying to do ,but somehow we still succeed because we as artist are collectively making a choice to to be part of the wonder and not the the antithesist of creation or the creator. That being said I guess I define myself as an artist as something that has been flowing through me like a river all my days and if I ever try to change its course or damn it up its only a matter of time before nature has its way with me. | | |
I suppose I am a humorous illustrator, one who likes to draw his own
ideas. So illustrators regard me as a cartoonist and cartoonists regard
me as an illustrator.I guess I fall into the category of caricaturist too.
I like to create images, either in animation or still image. My background is in animation and film. i always likes commercial projects rather than 'arty' projects.
I draw and paint intensely. My work reflects my interests in art, music, film, and literature.
I am a creative professional. I would consider myself to be an illustrator and a fine artist foremost, though I have also dabbled in graphic design, store window displays, and functional art objects.
I am an illustrator and fine artist. My genre of professional illustration is in childrens books. I am a realist in general with a bit of fantasy under my belt. |
