What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?

Whohub

Primarily I paint landscapes. Capturing the lay of the land with its meadows and treelines meeting the sky reminds me of the prayer, "Lord, the sea is so big and my boat is so small..."

I paint realistic portraits of animals and people, using a technique where I blend acrylic paints with layers of colored pencil, pen and graphite.

I am a collage artist working mainly with CS2 Adobe photo shop. I create Cute Art World designs in ACEO/ATC form (Art Cards Editions & Originals)/(Artist Trading Cards), 8x10 and 5x7 prints, greeting and note cards and glass pendant necklaces are in my near future! I am an outsider artist in some aspects. I love to create the found art Steam punk! Custom designs with your pet in mind are totally up my alley! I love to shoot from my hip because you never know what you will get! I guess I am what you may call a WOW factor artist!

I paint contemporary cityscapes and abstract paintings, inspired by man made forms and buildings.

I am a painter, working primarily in oils. I work outdoors, en plein air, exploring and painting in the landscapes around me, and then back in my studio I create abstractions based on those images and experiences. The majority of my work tries to capture light and movement.

I draw and paint, but also write comics and prose, make videos, publish books and write and record songs. I think my work has artistic merit, but I approach it all as a craftsman.

I am a representational artist. I paint with acrylics on canvas. I use thin layers or thick textural strokes of paint. My paintings are influenced by my love of colour. When I paint I try to capture the excitement of colour in light, shadow and atmosphere. My paintings are also influenced by my knowledge of abstract design principles.

Presently I'm developing the "Women of God" Art Retreat (http://womenofgodartretreat.net) in my 1890's Victorian Home. This idea came to me earlier this year and my first artist-guests arrived in May. While they were here I conducted workshops in acrylics, watercolors, mixed media, and pastels.
While they were here they suggested several changes I might make in my retreat as well as my web site. I took their advice and revamped my web site and retreat ideas. Then, I started a Blog (http://artretreat.blogspot.com). These things, taking care of Isabella, my dog, and Sassie, my cat, my flower garden, the house and painting keep me busy. And I have several regular students as well as other artists who love to come and paint with me in my large studio (http://womenofgodartretreat.net/Gallery.html.) I have three sons who live in other states and towns, and we talk daily or several times a week via phone. Other than all of this, I like to eat out, watch good movies, cook, read and write.

I create works in oils, pastels, charcoal, ink, watercolor...anything that will express the idea I'm working on. I take alot of inspiration from the Impressionists, and I admire the ethereal feel I get from working in that genre. I'm not impressed with hyperrealism...I want to express my view and take of my subject...not make a rigid photocopy of anything. I try to convey what I was feeling at the time, and what struck me as beautiful, interesting or poignant about what I was seeing. I try to work as much as I can from life; but, in more inclement weather, and lately, I've been finishing bigger pieces in my studio, from smaller works created on location.

Portraiture, a generalist , creative consultant

I'm a folklore and fairytale artist. I will explore all kinds of styles and techniques for making art, from woodblock printing to sculpture, but I'm fascinated with fairytales, folktales, myths and mythology so much that it tends to dominate my work as a theme.

I am an artist exploring the disorientating phantasmagoria, and the redundancy of the image, inherent in contemporary culture

I'm a female erotic painter, my niche is female erotic art.
I draw and paint in what is called a figurative style, I prefer painting in oils and soft pastels for the most part. I’ve studied for about five years in a private Art School in Montreal and absorbed a wealth of technical knowledge and this has allowed me to evolve as an artist. For me, it is essential to be able to broach topics sometimes deemed taboo or not for polite company, I make no apologies, this is who I am.

Subject matter varies (still-life, landscape, portrait, etc.) dependent on what captivates my attention at the time. Sometimes, I paint what I see, with no special message and at other times, I paint the socially unacceptable, the raw experiences of life, especially in regards to violence against women. I cannot see myself using my talent as an artist without giving voice to what I feel matters.

I am coming into my own as an erotic painter and hope to share my art at many erotic shows throughout the world in the coming months and years. I want to show what simply is without judgment. Sensuality and sexuality, the erotic are beautiful components of humanity, the subtle heat in someone's eyes, the sultriness of lips, the sensual curves of a woman's body, all speak of the promise of happiness and joy, of discovery and play. For me, painting the female erotic is an act of pure feminism, it's my way of going against the flow of hatred and bigotry and violence in our world. I have no erudite narrative about my path as an artist nor do I feel compelled to invent one. I am an artist and I am communicating my particular and unique point of view.

Of course, my being a feminist and queer woman greatly influence how is see the world around me and i’m glad for it. I love the vibrancy of what the Impressionists brought the world, I am also a fan of Rembrandt and the old school masters. I find myself influenced by the strong women in my life and throughout history and try to honor this through what i paint.

I have had few awards for my work, mainly due to my not seeking them out. I have been awarded first prize for technique and composition at the school I studied in and also received an honorable mention at a rather large art show in Montreal, I think it was at the Place Bonaventure Hotel. Other than those, I have mainly been busy selling directly to clients. One of my paintings is in the private collection of the Blake family (Mr. Toe Blake’s daughter), another is hanging from the wall of a private College (Collège Français) in the Montreal area and many more have found homes all over the province, in Ontario as well as in the U.S.A. and even as far as Greece.

I am now living in the Lanaudière region of the province of Quebec and painting to my heart’s content. I’m hoping to share my art with all.

I am a poet, musician and visual artist. In my art, music and stories I seek to convey the beauty I see, hear and feel in the life around us. We are surrounded by the spirit of nature, the soul of sound and the dance of vision. The goal of art is to move us; move us to look inward or reach outward or stop and be still. All we have is here and now. This life before us, over our heads, under our feet, residing in our center is good. My art is an attempt to share this goodness with others while at the same time loving life again and again.

As a visual artist, I paint in gouache. Gouache is water-based paint, with the ability to be opaque or transparent. I consider myself a painter, not a water colorist because gouache is more like using oil than watercolors or plastic based paint. I make reproductions of my paintings using an inexpensive but a lasting technique. As a writer, I work on stories from my life, a collection called Wild Wisdom Highway, and Mi Querida Oaxaca--stories and journal entries from my life in Mexico. Poems come naturally since childhood. My goal when leaving college with a BA in English and an Art minor was to make visual art and write. My blog called Coyote Woman's Journal features my artwork, poetry, and other writings.....as well as photos. It centers around my life in Oaxaca, MX but expands into other areas of interest as well.

I am a painter, a poet, songwriter, singer, dancer, meditator or generally a creative human being. Creativity comes from an awareness of energy and how it gets channeled in communicating with others. For years I did psychic/spiritual Tarot readings, taught classes and gave healings. These too, I see as being creative activities. I feel that creating my life, expressing myself, is a work of art in process. For me, artistic expression has to do with giving voice to spirit.
