CONSUMER
Do you see consumption as a social act? Is every purchase decision we make a vote?
Yes, that is why this interview is happening isn't it.
Yes, I think consumers make the rules. I believe there is a strong shift for companies to be eco-friendly. I hope to see a lot less packaging this year and more recycled and/or biodegradable items.
What you purchase should reflect your values.
Consumption is exactly a social act. It is a reciprocal interaction in which a good or service is exchanged for currency. The behavior of each affects the response, ideally of the other. Consumption originated as a social response to environmental change and fluctuates in accordance with social climate.
no
Absolutely!
Not necessary, we buy food 'cause we have to eat.
Yes, even though most of the time, we’re not aware of it.
I have never thought of it as such until I read this question but I do think it is a social act and in fact a vote the state of the nation. Widespread purchase of supermarket own brands is a social act and a vote on the state of the economy and distrust in the current government.
There is I suppose a correlation consumer consumption and peoples reaction to environmental issues and pressures. I personally do not consider ethical or environmental issues when making purchases. The low pay rates in some third world countries are in fact essential for the economies of those nations and more importantly are important to familiesof those concerned and make the difference between a family being able to eat or not. It is foolish to think that wages in third world countries should be the same as western wages for example.
As far as environmental issues and concerns I deliberately do not recycle anything, I am opposed to the lies of the green lobby and it is something which is being manipulated to allow councils to provide worse than 2nd class services to rates payers, for example fortnightly bin collections and having to sort rubbish before going to civic amenity sites. | | |
