HEALTH
What is your specialty? What does your work consist of?
I am a diabetes educator, nutrition specialist, biochemist, engineer, and lecturer. My educational background is engineering and biochemistry, Penn State University.
Our specialty is diabetes education, and also education in heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, chronic fatgue, and other similar health issues.
We develop educational products to help people improve their health: books, ebooks, CDs, DVDs.
We also provide educational workshops, seminars to corporations and wellness organizations; and 1-on-1 health coaching to families and individuals.
Can you provide a link to a site where we can get to know more about you or the activity you carry out?
What types of clients do you have? Why do they come to you and what can you offer them?
Individuals (all professions, races, income levels, etc.), corporations, wellness organizations, health services companies -- anyone suffering with diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, fatigue, etc.
They come to us because we are very effective at helping people improve their health in a very short period of time. Some even become experts because they learn so much from us about disease, nutrition, and drugs.
We have also helped to dramatically improve the productivity of several companies because their employees are taking off less time for sickness, doctor appointments, hospital stays, etc.
What is your definition of health, and of a healthy life?
Health is a state of well-being consisting of 3 components: Body, Mind, and Spirit.
A healthy life is one where the 3 components of health (Body, Mind, and Spirit) are in harmony and balance.
What are some basic rules for those who want to live to be 100.
Eat the 5 super foods.
Avoid the 5 dead foods/chemicals, incl. GMO foods (i.e. corn, soy)
Use your inner spirit to fuel your drive and attitude.
Exercise consistently.
Have healthy relationships; get rid of toxic relationships.
Let go of any anger, resentment, envy, etc.
Be of service to others and your community.
Find your passion and use it to help others less fortunate.
Acquire knowledge -- it's power.
Become a health advocate.
Avoid too much TV -- stunts independent thinking, creates followers.
Avoid doctors and their drugs.
Read "Death to Diabetes" and follow the 10 Steps.
Happiness and health: how much do they have in common, and how much myth is there in their relationship?
Happiness and health are connected, so they have a lot in common. As I previously mentioned, the Body, Mind and Spirit must all be in harmony and balance. Happiness helps the Mind and our Spirit as it affects our feel-good and stress hormones, e.g. serotonin, cortisol.
Conventional medicine and alternative medicine: what is real and what is superstition?
Both Conventional medicine and Alternative medicine are real and have superstition associated with them. Conventional medicine and its drugs work for acute, life-threatening situations such as my near-death coma. But, Conventional medicine and its drugs don't work for sustaining long-term quality health because the drugs break down the liver and kidneys, causing more damage than benefit.

Alternative medicine works better for long-term degenerative health issues such as diabetes and heart disease -- because it addresses the root causes and doesn't cover up the symptoms of the disease like the drugs do.

Alternative medicine could benefit from the structure, processes and testing associated with Conventional medicine. Conventional medicine could benefit from the nutritional science and non-drug methodologies associated with Alternative medicine.
Can the mind cause or cure illness? What evidence do you have on the matter?
Yes, the mind can cause or cure illness.
Refer to the clinical studies and references in my book Death to Diabetes.
(If I get a chance, I'll add them here later)
Do you recommend Vitamins and nutritional supplements? Do you believe their benefits have been proven?
Yes and no. I recommend to my clients to save their money and initially avoid taking Vitamins and nutritional supplements -- until they have implemented an nutritional-based wellness program.
Then, I will recommend specific supplements only. Why? Because more than 90% of the supplements out there are synthetic and can do more harm than good.
There are studies that show the benefits of specific supplements at specific dosage levels, but most people are unaware of these details when they buy a supplement.
Every day there is a new product to stop aging. Is it solace that we are really buying?
Yes, we're buying solace.
You can't stop aging! Well, actually you can -- by dying. :-)

There are 2 ages associated with each us: chronological age and biological age.
You can't stop your chronological age, but you can reduce your biological age -- by eating the 5 super foods, avoiding the 5 dead foods, and following the steps I listed in an earlier response.

Some people say: "What's the use? We're all going to die!"
That's true, but there's no need to suffer on the way and lose your legs, eyesight, and kidneys!
Obesity, insomnia, and depression, are epidemic. What does that say about our way of life? What must be changed at the social level?
Our "way of life" has become our "way of death".
On the social level, we need to value true quality of life, and value our family, friends, and community -- and, stop listening to the TV, the doctors, the so-called medical experts, etc.
Also, we need to educate ourselves about what is really important in life, and realize that we have the power to stop the epidemics.
Remember this: People with power do not want YOU to have power.
What is your opinion on the use of medical marijuana for terminal illnesses.
I support it. But, we must all first be educated about all drugs.
In this country, there has been a so-called "war on drugs", which focused on street drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and crack.
But, the Number 1 drug problem in America is not the street drugs -- it's the prescription and OTC drugs!
The patient/doctor relationship is part of the success of treatment. What should it be like?
A healthy doctor-patient relationship is one of respect, trust, and balance. But many patients are intimidated by their doctors. and, many doctors are full of too much ego to "lower" themselves to listen to their patient and realize they have value.
Is it reasonable to treat a patient whose condition is hopeless, only for medical experimentation?
No! -- unless the patient agrees ...
How do patient beliefs or superstitions effect recovery?
A patient's beliefs or superstitions can dramatically effect his/her recovery quite a bit. Negative beliefs can prevent or slow down our healing and recovery. I am a living example of that as the doctors were shocked at my recovery from a coma and facing leg amputation. The doctors told me I was "in denial" with my false belief that I would improve my health and get off all the drugs they had me taking.
But, the power of positive thinking combined with positive actions can change your journey from one of "illness, drugs and death" to one of "wellness, no drugs and life".

What is the best way to give bad news to a patient?
Be honest and direct with them. Because my doctors were honest with me, I realized that if I didn't make some serious changes, that I was either going to die or end up blind, on kidney dialysis, or with both legs amputated.
Is the best preventive medicine teaching someone how to live?
Definitely! But, unfortunately, there are few so-called experts who can teaching us how to live properly ...
What are the most frequent errors of slimming diets.
The most frequent errors of slimming diets include the over-focus on calorie-counting, fad diets, and weight loss at any cost. The focus should be on "getting healthy" not weight loss! If you get healthy, your body will burn the fat as fuel!
Also beware of foods that use "marketing" terms such as "low fat", no fat", "low cholesterol", "low-carb", "diet" foods, artificial sweeteners, "calories in equal calories out", so-called diet shakes, fasting, etc.
Are too many unnecessary tests and x-rays performed in hospitals?
In most cases, there are too many unnecessary tests and x-rays performed in hospitals. I went through this, and ended up with a horrendous hospital bill because my insurance company wouldn't pay for the extra tests. I found out later during my research, that most, if not all, of the extra diagnostic medical tests were unnecessary.
What new technologies have the most potential to save lives in the near future?
There are many new technologies for saving lives in heart surgery, micro-surgery, laser surgery, new diagnostic machines that can detect heart disease, the new blood glucose monitors that can track your blood sugar 24x7; emerging innovations in non-invasive methods of glucose monitoring and insulin delivery; inhaled insulin (via nasal spray or inhaler) in powder or aerosol form, will surpass all prior methods of insulin delivery in terms of pain and convenience. This method has the potential to deliver insulin in one long-acting dose per day and provide a closer match to the body's natural production of insulin.
In addition to diabetes research, there is medical research for cardiovascular disease and stroke, sensory impairments (hearing and vision loss), muscle-skeletal diseases, and neoplastic diseases (cancer). And, also, new drugs that target specific cancer cells.

FYI: My engineering staff is working on a new app that you can download to your iPod, iPad, laptop, iPhone or any other platform. It analyzes your meal and provides healthier recommendations. It also provides a graph of your blood test results, with an analysis that you can show your doctor. it's very cool. The challenge is making the tool robust enough, getting the venture capital, and finding the right channels to distribute. Another aspect of the tool helps a diabetic implement a safe drug weaning process -- but, this doesn't sit well with the medical industry, doctors, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies.

BUT the "best technology" for saving lives is eating the 5 super foods, and avoiding the 5 dead foods/chemicals.
If someone consults you, what is your recommendation regarding cosmetic surgery and implants?
It depends on the circumstances, but in general, I recommend to avoid ANY surgery if possible. Many people have died from so-called "routine" surgery.
What is your opinion on the regulation of health care practice.
The entire health care system needs a major overhaul. But, until we recognize that "healthcare" is not a service, but part of a huge multi-trillion dollar BUSINESS ...
How do you asses the potential or the risks of genetic engineering on nutrition and human health?
I'm an engineer, so I'm aware of the high risks and the mistakes we are making with genetically-modified (GM) foods, especially corn and soybeans. As engineers and scientists, we think that we are smarter than God, but so far, we have proven we're just not that smart ...
Avoid all GM foods!
Do you believe legalizing the use of narcotics would increase or lessen the damage caused to public health?
Believe it or not, street drugs aren't as big a problem as prescription drugs and OTC drugs!

Everyone in America gets upset with the local drug pusher who's pushing cocaine, crack, and heroin.

But, he's small potatoes compared to the REAL drug pushers who push prescription drugs and OTC drugs: the doctors, pharmaceutical companies, TV, pharmacies, and insurance companies.

Excerpt from my book and my website http://www.deathtodiabetes.com:
"According to the Center for Disease Control, close to 130 million Americans consume prescription drugs every month – more than any other country. In fact, over the past decade, the total number of prescriptions has increased by about two-thirds, to 3.5 billion a year. Practically every type of expert – doctors, public health officials, medical researchers – believes that Americans are over-medicated. We are willing to accept prescriptions for practically anything and demand them for conditions we think need medicating. If a condition has even the slightest potential to cause discomfort, there is a pill, patch, or prescription for it. And now, even TV commercials get you thinking about symptoms you may not have noticed before and suggest you ask your doctor for particular medications to combat them. But, America is not alone – other countries have increased their use of drugs/medications as well due to the influence of Western Medicine."

Pushing prescription and OTC drugs has become a multi-billion dollar business!
Of the thousands of beauty products on the market, what percentage has a significant effect?
I don't really know ... but, I doubt that many of those products are really effective.

A few years ago, there was a woman who had spent thousands of dollars on some facial surgery, facial creams, etc. but with no real positive results. In the meantime, she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and a friend recommended my book "Death to Diabetes". She implemented the program, and attended several of our workshops, webinars, and coaching sessions. After 31/2 months, her doctor had taken her off her meds for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. She lost 39 pounds, and lowered her blood pressure and blood sugar back to their normal levels.
One day she was walking through a mall, and a friend she hadn't seen for almost a year, ran over and complimented her on her weight loss. Then, after a few minutes of talking, the friend asked her: "So, how much did the facelift cost? It really looks good!"
She told her friend that she didn't have a facelift, but her friend didn't believe her! She couldn't wait to get home and call our office and tell us what happened.
That's what the power of eating super foods can have not only on your internal health, but your outer health and beauty ...
How many times have you guessed what was wrong with a patient only by looking at his/her face?
I'm an engineer --I don't believe in guessing. I look at a client's blood work and other data first.
What areas of health or of medicine are you most interested in devoting yourself to in the next few years?
My interests include pathophysiology, etiology, and epidemiology research in the areas of Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease; and, also nutritional science.
Would you change your profession for any another?
No! -- I love what I do, and how I am able to impact lives -- not just the lives of my clients, but their families and their friends!

I am truly blessed to have survived a near-death diabetic coma, and learn to use that experience and my background in engineering and biochemistry to help so many people.
