Interview with:Heather Halavais [heatherh]
PHOTOGRAPHY
Do you have an online gallery where one can view your photos? You can view my photography at www.HeatherHalavais.com
For how long have you done photography? How did you begin? I was always interested in photography as a child. I started 17 years ago after taking photography in college.
What has been your education as a photographer? I took photography in college. After that it was just practice practice practice!
Please list any exhibitions in which you have participated. I've been in quite a few exhibitions over the years. All of them are listed on my website www.HeatherHalavais.com
Please list any awards for your work. I'm so humbled every time I'm awarded for my photography. I've been awarded First, Second, Third, Jurors Choice, and Honorable Mention.
What is your favourite type of photography? Most recently, it has been abstract photography. The freedom is very exciting to me!
What do you try to express through your photography? Definitely, the feeling of the moment in the photograph. I love how a photography can evoke an immediate feeling for the viewer.
How do you choose your subjects? I really like to see how a subject interacts with life. For concert photography, the artist is caught up in the moment he or she loves and to capture that love on film is wonderful.
Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow? 9 times out of 10 I have a purpose in mind. I often have images in my mind that I try to get on my camera.
Which past masters of photography do you most admire? My favorite photographer is Edward Rusha
Do you consider yourself more technical or more artistic? I'm definitely more artistic!
How does one develop the instinct of knowing when to press the shutter release button? That is something that you just have to learn over the years. It's very hard to teach someone that. Developing an eye takes a while and some people are just born with it.
Is there any particular technique that you could share? Shoot alot of photos of the same subject and practice!
