Interview with:Alicia Paige [helloleesh]
STYLING
What is your specialty as a stylist? fashion, salon, image, objects...? Fashion
Can you provide a link to a site where we can see something of your work or of where you work. http://dailybooth.com/helloleesh
In what style or trend do you classify yourself? Eclectic/Chameleon: outfit categories include sweet/dainty, va-va-voom sexy, quirky, menswear, and more.
What are your clients like? I don't have clients, per se (though I did craft jewelry I sold in college). I have followers who derive inspiration from my "OOTD's" (Outfits of the Day)
How did you begin to develop your talent? Have you possesed it since you were a child? I remember wanting to be a fashion designer at age 11.
What importance has professional training had on your career? I have had no professional training-- just a keen eye for fashion, observation, and loves for art and math/science. It may sound strange, but it's important to have knowledge of math/science to know how the body looks and how to use clothes to flatter it.
When did you first realize you could make a living this way? I am still hoping to reach that realization. :)
What people or experiences have taught you the most and helped you to arrive where you are? All of my life experiences have shaped who I am and, thus, are manifested in my presentation of my personality. I also derive inspiration from visiting cities and absorbing the personal tastes of all the beautiful people around me.
What is your concept of beauty? Why does it change so much from one culture to another, or from one era to another? Beauty is ethereal. It is also relative and conditional. One's own beauty should tell a story of the experiences she's had in life and the convictions she's developed over time.
Do you need to love what you do, or does professionalism suffice? In this field, love of fashion trumps all. Creativity cannot be forged, no matter the amount of professionalism that is poured into the effort.
Your definition of "glamour"? Utter confidence in one's own skin and styling-- no matter how outlandish or uncommon.
Being surrounded by a different style can cause a person to feel different. Can such a feeling transform a person? Absolutely. As previously stated, your sense of style should be a manifestation of your life experiences. Fashion evolves with us.
What trends do you see gaining momentum? Tribal prints and earthy tones. Also, the '90's are retro now-- fabulous!
Make a prediction: how long will the fashion of piercing and tattoos last? This is a subculture of the fashion world that will always be around. P.S. Tattoos are pretty tough to remove. ;)
What magazines or websites do you follow to keep up to date? What other types of cultural inputs serve as sources of inspiration for you? Cosmo, Glamour, ModCloth.com, daily observation of people, and my mood.
I would like to be more discerning when I buy clothes or furniture. What do you recommend I do to acquire this ability? Talk to a good friend whose taste you admire and ask advice. If your gut tells you you should tweak something about her suggestions, listen to your gut! That's your own sense of style flexing its own voice. Also, have fun!
