ART
What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?
I am a painter . I am very simple, abstract and objective about my paintings.
What is your message?
I don't have message . My works are titleless and I would like people who see them feel happy real and spiritual all together.
Your biography in four lines.
I was born in Arronches Portugal in 1952 and live presently in Lisbon. I learnt print skills at GRAVURA , I did some studieds at Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes and practiced painting at sculptor Matos Simões’ studio, all in Lisbon. I have developed my activity in the fields of painting, collage and original silkscreen printing.

How is an idea born? For you, what is inspiration?
the idea borns from the work itself, from the continuation. Inspiration is an idea.
What role does technology play in your creative process?
tecnology has a few role in my classic creative process
What is art?
art is a way of pleasure
When do you get your best ideas?
I get my best ideas when I work on my paintings or when I paint . The process itself gives me the ideas.
How do you evaluate whether an idea is good or not?
As the time goes by . The idea needs time to consolidate itself .
When and how did you begin to see yourself as an artist?
In 1985 when I noticed I had a lot of paintings made
Why do so many artists and creators have such volatile personalities?
I dont know
Do you consider yourself postmodern?
No , because is important to be original and inovator
How should a work of art be evaluated?
through the knowledge of History of Art
Must an artist reinvent him/herself everyday?
no, not everyday
Which artists do you admire and how do they influence your work?
I admire Malevich, Arp and Mondrian . Also Hopper
What do you think about public funding for the arts?
I think well
Is art necessary?
Yes , when we are not hungry nor thursty
Does it pain you to let go of a piece you have sold?
Yes
Is a work of art purchased, or is it better said, that it is the artist who is bought?
The work of art is purchased.
In art, there is no guide. How do you know what the next step is?
The next step comes always from the work done . Not necessarily a continuation of it .
How do you feel about the fact that the pieces exhibited in contemporary art museums are often of artists already deceased?
I feel well because art needs time to be consistant or not .
What role have the figures of art dealer, gallery owners, representatives, and intermediaries in general played in your career?
Great role
Do you personally collect any items?
Not now, but I collected some engraving works .
What advice would you give to those just beginning?
Never give up
