 | What made you interested in design? The freedom to be able to create something you love, and that somebody else will enjoy wearing and have pleasure from. |
 | What has been your professional career path? I studied a national diploma in fashion at college, then I went on to study a degree in Fashion Design at University. Then soon after I set up my own business. |
 | Have you received any awards for your work in the field of design? I received a nomination for the 'Young business achieves of the year award' through the Prince's Trust. |
 | What is your motivation? What makes you get up in the mornings? Because I love what I do thats my motivation. Its to bring my customers the best possible service and products. For me its not work or a job, its what I love to do. |
 | How would you define your design style? Vintage inspired, stylish with a modern twist |
 | How do you promote and move your work? Mainly through press articles, features on blogs, websites and fashion magazine. |
 | In which new areas would you like to experiment? The wholesale market, I have tried it before and its great for getting your brand out there... and in stores all over the world. |
 | Shapes, color, concept: where do you usually begin when conceiving a design? I usually look at the current trends then revert back to the 1940s and 1950s film, you can get great ideas. I love to travel too, I always pick up great design ideas from the amazing places I visit too. |
 | What are your sources for documentation and to generate ideas? A good camera.... you never know when you might see something amazing or inspirational. I upload them onto my I-pad, I can f then flick though them and put them into mood broads for instant inspiration. |
 | Which festivals or awards in your field do you find most interesting? I love London fashion week and the Oscars.... its a red carpet catwalk in one! |
 | What is your favourite type of customer? A customer who is looking for something for a special occasion, as it feels like your part of their celebration. |
 | To a certain point, is copying justifiable? It will always happen so as they say.....imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! |
 | List some things you dislike seeing in design. Cheap imitations and mass produced goods. |
 | Do you believe the newer generations are better at designing? No I don't, its so fast paced nowadays its all about making as much money as possible, and making clothes as quickly as possible. So the tailoring and fit of clothes suffers and your just conditioned to design to comply with these boundaries. However, I must say I think the UK has some of the most exciting new design talent in the world. |
 | With which type of client would you decline in working for? Never say never.... |
 | How do you calculate budgets for a design project? I usually compile a spread sheet, no matter how organised you are there are always some hidden costs, so I always make sure I leave at least another 50% of the budget just incase. So always double what you think you are going to spend. |
 | Which professionals in your field -contemporary or past- do you most admire? There are so many... I love Vivienne Westwood, there's nobody quite like her. Even if her clothes are 20 years old, they still look fresh and on trend see has the magic touch. |
 | Which software applications do you most utilize in your work? I cant live with out photoshop its amazing! |
 | Up to what point do your designs reflect your personality? I like to design pieces that I would wear and are fun playful pieces, not too serious just like me I suppose. |
 | How do you distinguish passing fads from mainstays in new trends? As Yves Saint Laurent once said....Fashions fade, style is eternal. |
 | If you weren't a designer, what would you be doing? I would always want to be involved in fashion, I would probably write for a fashion magazine, but if I couldn't do fashion I would probably be a make-up artist. |
 | At this moment, what would be your dream job or project? Im already doing my dream job! |
 | Can you see yourself in this field twenty years from now? Oh yes! |
 | Which design resources online do you frequently visit? Wgsn is the main area and blogs are very inspirational I usually stubble across a new one every day which is full of amazing imagery and information. |
