Interview with:Jessie Harlin [jessieharlin]
ILLUSTRATION
 | What is your specialty in illustration? I am a model maker/illustrator who with clay and various other materials creates models which I then photograph to produce either stand alone illustrations or stories. Body language and expression are key elements in my work as this is what I feel can bring a little model to life. Although still in the photographs I have taken so far, the models I make have working armatures suitable for stop motion animation, a process I plan to experiment with soon. |
 | Is there a web address where we can see some of your work? |
 | Have you completed formal art studies, or are you self-taught? Formal studies in art are:
GCSE Art - A
A Level Art - B
A Level Photography - B
Art Foundation - Distinction
Illustration BA(Hons) - 2:1 |
 | What past or present day illustrators do you admire most? Ron Mueck
Suzy Templeton
Creators of Madame Tutli-Putli
Model makers of Red Nose Studio's |
 | Do you have a particular style, or does it vary a lot? My models seem to have adopted their own style, as images they are quite different from anything else I feel.
I am also a painter and draughtsman, the style of my work here is quite soft and realistic. |
 | Do you have a favorite work of art? Suzy Templeton's 'Dog' |
 | What part of your work do you do on paper and what part digitally? I make my models by hand, paint them by hand and create their clothes by hand. I then photograph them along with photographing bit and bobs for the background and edit the photographs on Photoshop to create the finished images. |
 | What research do you do for your illustrations? It is important in my illustrations for the models to have their own character and life. This is achieved largely through the models body language so I do a lot of reasearch on this along with all the other bits and bobs important to each individual models character development. |
