Interview with:Jerry Schwehm [jkschwehm]
ART
What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist? I'm creative. I work with any and all media to make art. I assemble wood and metal, paint, do graphic art, write. As long as I create I feel I have accomplished something. Each venture is a learning experience, how do things fit together to become an art object. I do not define what I do, I just do. My art is me growing and doing. I change as the art needs me to change.
What is your message? Nothing, each person brings to art what experience they have, what emotion it evokes in them. I cannot dictate to a viewer what they should or will feel when viewing my art. I guess an emotion is what is strived for, good, bad, ugly, beautiful, anything the viewer feels is my message.
Your biography in four lines. Born and raised in New Orleans surrounded by old beauty and great music. I hope that shows in my art. A friend once wrote this bio for me- http://www.figstreet.com/studio/biography.html
Do you upload your work to the web? If so, where could we see it? I am all over the web in many places, begin at http://www.figstreet.com/studio
When do you get your best ideas? Early in the morning after a good nights sleep.
How do you evaluate whether an idea is good or not? I try not to be too selective. I have created things I thought were junk, yet another thinks it is wonderful. Art is subjective and I at times do not see what others do.
Does it pain you to let go of a piece you have sold? I view my art as children and when they leave me I hurt. Some I cannot let go at all.
