Julie Ward [julieward]

ADVERTISING
Have you got a blog or web page?
www.bigcom.com
What do your clients value more, strategy, creativity, design, or return of investment?
It's our job to make sure our clients consider all of these important factors. Creativity has more value when it's backed by sound strategy. And ROI must be considered when developing strategy. A successful campaign addresses all three.
What brings you the most satisfaction: when your advert pleases your boss, your client, your friends, or your mother?
I'm a people pleaser, I'm enthusiastic about my clients and I'm always inspired by the creativity that comes out of my coworkers. This combination results in campaigns that that excite my boss, clients, friends and family. Did I mention that I'm a people pleaser?
What is your favourite thing about working in advertising and what is your least favourite?
My favorite thing about working in advertising is being surrounded by creative, passionate people. My least favorite thing is when those people aren't appreciated as much as they should be!
What are the main mistakes clients make in judging creativity?
Not allowing themselves to see the bigger picture.
Is it possible for someone in advertising to communicate well with people of other generations or cultures not their own?
It's a requirement. We have to be able to speak to, influence and inspire a variety of different demographics.
What advice would give to someone who wants to join the ranks of advertising?
This industry can be extremely rewarding if you are willing to work hard, keep an open mind and continuously challenge yourself and others to reach a new level of excellence. You must always be open to learning new things and building upon both your successes and your failures. Be proud of what you do and never de-value your work to others, but don't ever let your ego get in the way of becoming better. And finally, embrace being a dork.
