Interview with:Kat Kalashnikov [katkalashnikov]
MODELING
When did you start modeling? What kind of jobs do you usually do? I started intially modeling flyer shots for my performances. I began to branch out over the years and it is now my greatest passion. I do all kinds of work but lately my gigs have been art nudes and hair salon shots.
Is your 'book' online? Can you provide a link to it? I use a lot of networking sites to post a sample gallery of my work, its easy and accessible, and since I am not the typical commercial model I can be lax about my portfolio viewing capabilities I offer. Typically I just tell people to Google my name: Kat Kalashnikov to look at my sites.
Do you pose nude? Yes, no, it depends? Yes I do.
Would you like to work behind the camera? Have you ever tried? I actually am beginning to get behind the lens. I have recently shot my first sets with other models, and would like to work on doing more film.
Do you see the profession as a springboard to something else, or something lasting? Both. My work intertwines with my clothing design and my performing and I always want them to. I believe being well-rounded is key to being a creative individual.
What do you think of anorexia? Do you think the fashion industry is responsible for this epidemic in some way? Of course not, anorexia is an issue that involves several factors in the patient, one could not expect one particular factor to be the cause of anorexia. The human brain is simply not that simple. I believe the industry does set a standard for beauty because it is supposed to and anyone who tries to guilt the industry is just not mature enough to handle the reality: modeling deals with being beautiful in the way the gig sees fit. If you do not qualify you're out. Move on.
What magazine do you dream of appearing on the cover of? The obvious is W Magazine. But realistically I dream of Vice Mag and Bizarre (UK Fetish Magazine) as well. Actually the combination of the three is what makes my dream unique.
Is it possible to do good work, but not like the product or project? I should hope so, that is what makes one a professional model.
