WRITING
What is your favorite genre? Can you provide a link to a site where we can read some of your work or learn something about it?

Any feedback is gratefully received.
What is your creative process like? What happens before sitting down to write?
Actually, the creative process begins and ends with sitting down to write. Although any book, even fiction needs research, the main way to get words on the page is to write. Polishing your words, researching for accuracy, checking for spelling and grammar, all of that is important and requires some effort and study. But for getting words on the page, for writing, nothing achienves like doing.

I have several sound tracks from movies and favourite groups that I start playing, I sit down and I don't let myself get up until I have written 1000 words. They don't have to be good words, or even coherent, just getting ideas and thoughts down is enough. Fix them up next time.

Nothing is so off putting as a blank white page. Your mind screams, "where do I start?"

Well ask yourself this question - who do you want to write about?

Put that down.

Describe them.

Now write about where they are.

Describe that.

What is the worst thing that could happen to that character?

Write that up.

How will they react?

Once you've got that down, you're away.
What well known writers do you admire most?
There are so many, Terry Pratchett, Lois McMaster Bujold, Harry Harrison, David Weber, the list goes on. I look for interesting characters, a knowledge of the twists of Fate, and the ability to dream.
What is required for a character to be believable? How do you create yours?
To be believable, a character must have depth. You need ot know their favourite colour, what they think about the death penalty, they reaction to a crying child. even if those things never appear in the book, knowing those items comes across almost unconsiously.
Do you write on a computer? Do you print frequently? Do you correct on paper? What is your process?
I am a big believer in using anything and everything that an help you suceed. So the use of a computer, or anything else, comes down to - will it help you succeed.

I find my handwriting is terrible and I can type much faster than I can write. This stops me from losing thoughts before I can get them down. I also carry a PDA (pocket computer) so that I can dictate thoughts as they occur to me anytime anywhere. It even sleeps beside my bed.

I do a final edit on paper, but I find reading the writing aloud is my best editing tool. In fact, I recently started using Dragon Naturally speaking to do my typing. I find my dialogue is more natural when I am actually saying it.

I came to this conclusion when I started creating podcasts of my books. I found phrase that didn't quite work, words I found myself changing as I read it aloud. Maybe the question is not type or not type, but dictate or not dictate.
What has been your experience with publishers?
My books are published as ebooks. Why? Well it started off because I wasn't working and I couldn't afford to send my manuscripts off in a paperbased form.

It has become a judgement call though. I use a book reader. I can carry around seven novels on a card the size of my thumb nail and still have room for music, games, pictures of my kid, and all my emails.

A lot of estabilshed authors are following the ebook trend. And for good reason. My books cost $5 and you can read them anywhere, right off your phone. So will it replace hardcopy books forever. no, not for everyone and not completely. But in a world of diminishing resources, and where many are spending more time in front of a computer screen than a TV screen, we have to be prepared for a chanfe. I think ebooks are the only way to go, and i back that up with my own books.
