Interview with:Nisa [knisa8]
EDUCATION
 | What subjects do you teach? What types of students do you have? 1. English Language and Literature..
2. Physical Education
types of student:
mixed level of students (from poor competency to good)
overall medium/average in English Language |
 | Can you provide a link to a site where we can see something about what you do or the center where you work? mostly from books..sometimes from internet..I like to surf around here and there...whichever I think suits my students more... |
 | How have your past experiences prepared you for teaching? How did you become interested in education? It has helped me in a way they I have experienced what the students will go through...and my passion towards education is still growing as I was advised by my parents to go into this field... Besides, I love language... |
 | Who was your most influential teacher and why? I would have to say my mom and also all my English teachers throughout my school years |
 | What is the most challenging aspect of teaching for you? patience |
 | What kind of relationship do you have with your students? I try to create a good relationship with the students...usually goes well with the more educated ones...some thinks of me as their sister...but I try to keep within the boundaries where I am still their teacher which need to be respected |
 | What is the secret to instilling interest in knowledge? lots of fun activities...mostly related to current trends..like music..movies..books..etc |
 | What is your philosophy on homework and grading? homework?? I make sure they finish in school if possible..during my period...if I dont have time...then I give the exercises as homework...but I make sure students pass it up the next day....by checking the name list...if they dont pass up..i double the work..then it goes on...tripling it then on and on...
grading?...i have this feeling of empathy...if i think they deserve extra marks to make an A..I'll definitely give some...if not...I try to make a deal with them...if I give extra marks...that person must promise for example not to sleep during english..or promise to complete all my exercises...something like that... |
 | Is it possible to teach creativity? how? oh..definitely! that's when they have this NIE program...its helps students to be creative by using the newspapers in education..and also helps the teachers as well.... |
 | How do you establish authority? What do you do when a discipline problem arises? I try to talk nicely at first..if it doesn't help..then I will go into my squeaking voice (like my husband always says) when i get really angry... |
 | Besides more financial resources, what do today's schools lack? exercise books such as work books...and more classrooms....smaller amount of students in a class helps teachers to focus on each students individually better... |
 | What do you think schools will be like in 20 years? abolished...students prefer to go for private tuition rather than in school...this goes for urban areas...the parents can afford to pay higher amount of fees to teachers outside school for the children rather than pay the school fees for students to be in school... |
 | What qualities would you need to see in someone before advising him/her to go into teaching? passion is very important..so that at one point u will not lose interest in teaching....
as well as patience...so that teachers may handle problems rationally not through emotion...
and not forgetting intelligence...in order to teach..one must know the subject to teach or to educate someone else.... |
